The drive comprises a number of similar belts running in parallel over sets of similar pulleys mounted on common shafts One of the the pulley sets, transmitting the toroue, has pulleys fixed to its shaft, while the other sets have individual pulleys (4) coupled to their respective shafts (1) via differential drives. Any jockey or tensioning pulleys turn freely in relation to each other on their individual shafts. The differential drive can comprise a rotary equaliser housing and a set of bodies rolling against both the pulleys to be coupled. The housing is coupled to the pulley shaft and the equaliser bodies to one of the pulleys.

TAPE DRIVE SYSTEM In accordance with an illustrative embodiment of the present invention, a tape drive system has two tape packs mounted for rotation in a housing. An endless elastic belt is mounted around two rollers to engage the tape packs on their periphery. A first roller is urged by the tension of the belt against the two tape packs and the belt is squeezed between each pack and this first roller. This squeezing action opposes the movement of the belt producing on the belt a tauter portion and a slacker portion which create a tension on the tape. All rotating parts are mounted without friction and only one external drive applied either to the tape or to anyone of these rotating parts is sufficient to drive the tape with a constant speed and a constant tension.

A vehicle is retrofitted with a secondary power generation system having a Mechanical Power Transfer System (MPTS) and an electrical generator. The MPTS transfers power from an engine crankshaft within an engine compartment to a generator shaft of the electrical generator disposed outside of the engine compartment. Retrofitting the vehicle with the MPTS allows the electrical generator to be attached to a portion of a chassis of the vehicle that is outside of the engine compartment. Attachment of the electrical generator outside the engine compartment avoids the tight space constraints and harsh operating conditions (high operating temperatures) within the engine compartment. Thus a larger, more powerful generator that requires less maintenance is realized. Additionally, the MPTS does not include any Power Take-Off mechanism, clutch system, or disengagement mechanism resulting in more efficient power transfer and in an overall increase in the amount of electrical energy generated than in conventional techniques. 140-. Belt tensioning systems are provided for use with a belt transferring rotational force from a drive pulley to a driven pulley. Self-aligning pulleys are disclosed that have a hub, a pulley body concentric about the hub and spaced a distance apart therefrom to define an annular gap, and an annular compliant member disposed in the annular gap between the hub and the pulley body to thereby operatively couple the pulley body to the hub for rotation therewith. The annular compliant member is three-dimensionally compliant to allow the pulley body to adjust in one or more of an axial orientation and a conical orientation relative to the hub to correct misalignments of the hub within a system of pulleys and a belt. 1. A self-aligning pulley comprising:a hub;a pulley body having a belt-engaging surface, wherein the belt-engaging surface is concentric about the hub and spaced a distance apart therefrom to define an annular gap; andan annular compliant member disposed in the annular gap between the hub and the pulley body and operatively coupling the pulley body to the hub for rotation therewith;wherein the annular compliant member is three-dimensionally compliant to allow the pulley body to adjust in one or more of an axial orientation and a conical orientation relative to the hub.2. The self-aligning pulley of claim 1 , further comprising:a bearing having a first race and a second race;wherein the hub is concentric about the second race of the bearing for rotation with the second race.3.
