A shaft seal assembly externally mounted to a high temperature device, such as a gas or steam turbine, having a plurality of rotary shaft sealing brush seals that includes at least one brush seal of wear-compensating construction that possesses a suitably high linear coefficient of expansion so it viscoelestically creeps over time compensating for brush seal wear. In one embodiment, a brush seal closest to the device is formed of an electrically conductive material that electrically grounds a rotary shaft of the device during shaft rotation and at least one other brush seal is formed of filaments of polymeric material, such as heat stabilized nylon, of wear compensating construction. In one preferred embodiment, the filaments of the inner brush seal are made of a self-lubricating metallic or bearing material and at least one other brush seal is formed of an intumescing material that can be of polymeric composition.

The present disclosure relates to sealing the propeller shaft of a ship using a sealing having a group of lip seals arranged consecutively in a direction of the propeller shaft so that a seal chamber is created between adjacent lip seals. The pressure of the first seal chamber on the propeller side can be close to the pressure of the surrounding water at the propeller shaft level, and the pressure of the second seal chamber furthest from the propeller can be adjusted to a fixed value that is lower than the pressure of the first seal chamber. The method further includes removing the crankshaft lip seal, re-machining a floating seal sleeve coupled to the crankshaft or the flywheel housing, and replacing a lip. The rotary seal comprises a static seal element mounted to the housing and a rotary sealing element mounted for rotation with the shaft. The static seal element comprises a mounting part and a flexible lip seal extending from the mounting part in an axial direction relative to the shaft. The rotary seal element comprises a seal body comprising an axially facing sealing face. The lip seal resiliently engages the sealing face of the seal body. The static seal element and the rotary seal element are mounted such that the relative axial positions of the static seal element and the rotary seal element can be adjusted. 1. A seal that enables an enclosure to be sealed and to keep an air pressure balance between an internal space within the enclosure and an external space outside the enclosure in such a way that water ingress into the enclosure is hindered in a predictable manner. This is accomplished by providing a seal having at least one small diameter tube with at least an inner surface being hydrophobic, oleophobic or omniphobic. The seal is mounted in the enclosure between the inner and outer space. To further avoid small particle contaminants to enter and go through the at least one small diameter tube, it is preferable to have a small diameter tube with curves and bends, and it will still allow an airflow through it if there is an air pressure imbalance.

A rotary seal seals a high-pressure region from a low-pressure region and has an assembly sleeve made of a rubber elastic material and at least one pressure-activatable rotary seal element with a seal edge. When a specified differential pressure value is exceeded, the seal edge of the rotary seal element rests sealingly against the seal surface of a machine part, thereby directly displacing a support element elastically supported on the rubber elastic assembly sleeve. When the specified differential pressure value is undershot, the support element is moved rearwards axially in the direction of the high-pressure region such that the seal edge of the rotary seal element is moved backwards into the seal edge rest position in which the rotary seal element lies against the seal surface without contact surface pressure or substantially without contact surface pressure or is arranged at a distance from the seal surface. 1. An improved life hydraulic valve actuator for a mold used in an injection molding machine. The actuator includes a housing for insertion into a hot runner assembly having a movable valve gate pin. A bore in the housing for receives an actuation piston which is connected to the gate pin. A hydraulic chamber in the assembly lifts the piston upward and downward for actuation of the pin in a valve gate. The actuation piston includes a centrally located circumferential double lip seal. The wall of the bore includes a pair of circumferential seals for engaging the outer circumference of the piston. The seals are positioned axially on either side of said centrally located double lip seal of the piston for sealing and guiding the piston. The circumferential bore seals include a Teflon ring which protects the bore in the event of seal failure and a second seal made of a Viton material. The seals in combination increase the longevity of the actuator over three fold than a similar actuation valve.

The present cartridge seal assemblies pertain to rotary lip-type seals. In certain embodiments, a sealing member is constructed of a relatively hard material that increases the lifespan of the sealing member.
