A method for adapting a control menu of an extraction unit (10) for drinking water (11) to a network (12), having the steps of: connecting a new device (14), wherein the extraction unit is connected to one or more devices using communication technology to form a network (12), in particular in the form of a bus system; transmitting a physical address of the new device (14) into the network (12) to the extraction unit (10); creating a new device register with the physical address of the new device (14) in the controller of the extraction unit (10); and automatically adapting the control menu of the extraction unit (10) to the new device register, with the result that the new device (14) can be controlled via the extraction unit (10). A servo-assisted steering system has a rotary gate valve composed of a rotary distributor (10) forming a single piece with the steering column (3) and a valve bush (20) forming a single piece with a threaded spindle (5). To carry away return oil for each direction of rotation, return bores (11-17) longitudinally arranged one after the other form two adjacent bore rows (9 or 9A). Each bore row (9 or 9A) is associated with a control groove (24 or 22) in the valve bush (20) linked to the working cylinder. The return bore (17) lies between the two bore rows (9 or 9A) and has an unvarying residual cross-section. To control the pressure increase, all return bores have in their active pressure chambers (30 or 31) flat control windows (51-57) of various circumferential lengths. The return cross-section created by the return bores can be changed by a driving piston (60) arranged in a concentric bore (45) of the rotary distributor (10). The driving piston (60) can be adjusted according to a driving speed dependent pressure. The change in cross-section of the bore rows (for example 9) that help control the pressure allows the actuating forces of the steering wheel to be adapted to each driving condition.

The method of this invention involves creating the notches in the valve spool by positioning a knurling tool at an angle with respect to the peripheral metering edge of the spool, rotating the knurling tool with respect to the spool to permit the spaced longitudinal V-shaped projections of the knurling tool to impress in the spool the desired tapered notches.

The throttle valve comprises several horizontal, ring-shaped, metal discs arranged in a concentric, vertical stack. The stack forms an inner or outer cylindrical wall, and a cylindrical valve stem is provided which contacts the stack wall. At least one group of discs (101) forms horizontal recesses or flow channels (103) opposite the stem, and other discs have another group of apertures overlapped by those of the first group, all opening of both disc groups being opened to the stack inner or outer cylindrical wall. The disc groups, by being rotated, form radially opposed and/or circumferentially displaced apertures which form channels in which the fluid flows in and out of the thus formed narrowed parts. The valve may have a housing with an inlet and an outlet. A hollow valve piston is movable to admit fluid from the inlet into a cylinder through openings in the wall of the piston and to free openings in the wall of the cylinder for the fluid to pass to the outlet. The openings in the piston are of smaller flow area than those in the cylinder and such that the pressure drop at either holes does not fall below a given value. In this way the substantial pressure drop occuring at a single stage and consequent noise or cavitation are avoided.
