This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for illumination. In one aspect, a lampshade includes a light source coupled to a tapered light guide sheet. The light guide sheet extends laterally and is curved around a vertical axis. The light source injects light into the wide end of the tapered light guide sheet and the tapered sidewalls of the light guide sheet allow the light to escape out of the light guide sheet and in the general direction of the narrow end of the tapered light guide sheet, thereby allowing the lampshade to act as an up-light or down-light, depending on the direction that the narrow end is pointing. The lampshade may include light extracting and turning features and/or a reflector configured to eject light laterally outward from the light guide sheet, thereby allowing the lampshade to illuminate objects on the same plane as the lampshade.

A heat dissipation fan with a detachable light emission unit includes a housing and a vane assembly in addition to the light emission unit. The housing has a bottom housing portion, a top housing portion, and a peripheral wall portion connected between the bottom and top housing portions. The bottom and top housing portions and the peripheral wall portion jointly surround a receiving space. Each of the bottom and top housing portions has a through hole in communication with the receiving space. The top side of the top housing portion, i.e., the side facing diametrically away from the bottom housing portion, has a lamp groove. The vane assembly is rotatably mounted in the receiving space and on the plane where the bottom housing portion lies. The light emission unit is detachably mounted in the lamp groove and, when damaged, can be detached and replaced to avoid waste of resources.

The intensity of the peak wavelength of blue light is the strongest in the spectrum of the light, and the intensity of the peak wavelength of red light is the second strongest in the spectrum of the light. The relative intensity of the peak wavelength of the red light with respect to the peak wavelength of the blue light is in a range from 0.1 to 0.5 inclusive.

A lighted emitting pole anchored to the ground. The bottom housing is bolted or anchored to an embedded support. The upper housing contains the light portion of the pole. The upper housing is constructed of an inner welded aluminum construction with optical film and an opaque acrylic tube or light guide. A fist donut shaped LED board with optics is mounted to a top of the upper housing and a second LED board with optics is mounted to a bottom of the upper housing. The LEDs emit light between the optical film and the light guide, which provides for an evenly distributed light throughout the pole. The present invention relates to a lighting device including a light transmittable shell, a conductive unit and a light source. The light transmittable shell has an inner space and a mounting opening connected to the inner space. Asymmetrical light intensity distribution from luminaire

In one embodiment, an overhead street light (a luminaire) is formed that has an asymmetric light intensity distribution, where the peak intensity is greatest along the direction of the street, lower directly across the street, and much lower on the house side of the street. Around the edge of a circular transparent light guide are white light LEDs that inject light into the light guide. To help control the asymmetry of the light intensity distribution, sawtooth-shaped grooves are formed in the light guide surface opposite to the light-emission surface and parallel to the street. Gaussian diffusers are used to partially diffuse the light. By proper selection of the grooves, the Gaussian diffuser, and the relative amounts of light emitted by LED segments around the light guide, the desired asymmetrical light intensity distribution is achieved while a direct view of the light exit surface appears as a uniform light.

A method for increasing the yield of a flowering plant includes positioning a lighting device with respect to a lower minor height of the flowering plant. The method includes irradiating the lower minor height with light in a predetermined range of the electromagnetic spectrum for a duration of a flowering stage of a life cycle of the flowering plant. The lighting device may be an annular clamshell design that circumscribes a stalk of the flowering plant. Such a design may be clamped to the stalk via a spring force of a pair of spring-loaded clamps. The lighting device may include a plurality of red LEDs arranged in an arcuate manner. At least 80 percent of the light from the lighting device is in the predetermined range of 580 nm to 780 nm, and may be in the range of 600 nm to 700 nm. 1. A method for increasing the yield of a flowering plant , the method comprising:positioning a lighting device with respect to a lower minor height of the flowering plant at an onset of a flowering stage of the flowering plant, wherein the lower minor height is less than half of a total height of the flowering plant; andirradiating the flowering plant along the lower minor height, via the lighting device, with light in a predetermined range of the electromagnetic spectrum for a duration of the flowering stage of a lifecycle of the flowering plant, such that at least 80 percent of the light has a wavelength in the predetermined range of 580 nm to 780 nm.2. The method of claim 1 , wherein positioning a lighting device with respect to a lower minor height of the flowering plant includes clamping the lighting device to a stalk of the flowering plant in the lower minor height.3. The method of claim 2 , wherein at least 95 percent of the light has a wavelength on the predetermined range.4.
