An automated weapon system [preferably a human transported weapon] is comprised of a barrel, a targeting subsystem, a computational subsystem, a positioning subsystem, and, a firing subsystem. The barrel is utilized for propelling a fired munitions as aimed towards an area of sighting. The targeting subsystem identifies a chosen target in the area of sighting. The computational subsystem, responsive to the targeting subsystem, determines where the chosen target is and where the barrel needs to be aimed so that the munitions will strike the chosen target. The positioning subsystem adjusts the aim of the munitions responsive to the computational subsystem. The firing subsystem, fires the munitions at the chosen target responsive to the positioning subsystem. In one embodiment, the system is further comprised of an additional linked automated weapon having a separate barrel, separate munitions, a separate positioning subsystem, and a separate firing subsystem. A system and method for determining the wind force along the planned trajectory of a projectile are disclosed herein. A drone is flown along the expected path of the trajectory along a set heading. The drone is programmed to maintain the heading. As wind forces act upon the drone during its flight, the drone's electronic stability system provides automatic power and directional control to one or more motors that control the rotors and propellers that keep the drone aloft. By monitoring the changes in motor or drone state information over time in response to wind forces, the wind can be determined at various locations along the flight path. This information can be provided to a ballistics calculator to determine the launch heading of the projectile.

Class 92 A computing gunsight system, including a sight 6 pivoted at 9 to rotate about an axis parallel to that of a rotatable gun support 2, is controlled by a member 7 whose deflection through an angle g from a neutral position turns the sight by means 8 to a proportionate angle relative to the gun 1 and rotates the support 2 by means 3, 4, 5 at an angular speed proportional to the sum of quantities proportional to the angle g and to its rate of change. Deflections corresponding to target movement are computed in both azimuth and elevation, but azimuthal systems only are described; one mechanical and one electrical. In the mechanical system a constant-speed motor 54 drives discs 53, 87c and 102c of variable speed drives 52, 87 and 102. Output cylinders 56 and 87a of drives 52 and 87 are coupled respectively to an input shaft 64 of a torque amplifier 66 and to a shaft 91 which moves the sight 6. The amplifier 66 rotates the gun-support 2 by the pinion 4 and rack 5. When the lever 7 is deflected.through the angle g it moves the ballcarriage 51 of the drive 52 correspondingly by a linkage 50 - 105 - 107. It also disturbs the ballcarriage 102b of drive 102 by linkage 108 - 104 - 111 - 110, causing cylinder 102a to rotate screw 109 and move link 104 on which link 108 is pivoted. A balance is reached and further motion of the link 108 ceases when the link 104 has been displaced by a distance proportional to dg/dt. Methods of sighting.-The parent Specication describes distant control systems in which a quick but sometimes inaccurate control is combined with a slow but accurate control, the quick control being placed out of action when the error becomes greater than a critical amount. According to the present invention, the two controls actuate the controlled member through differential gear, so that the quick control is never placed out of action. The invention is shown in Fig. 1 applied to an electric system for controlling the elevation of guns in accordance with the movement of a sighting telescope. The quick control comprises a motor e<1> rotating synchronously with a motor e which operates the sighting-telescope, both the motors being controlled by a switch g of the potentiometer type which allows the desired speed to be obtained. The slow control comprises a motor e'<1> controlled by wheatstone bridge apparatus i, i<1>. The two motors e' e'<1> actuate the gun d through differential gear f. So long as the gun d and the telescope a are maintained parallel by the synchronous motors e e<1>, the slow control motor e'<1> remains stationary. As soon, however, as the gun deviates a given angle from parellelism, the wheatstone bridge is no longer in equilibrium and relays come into action causing the motor e'<1> to rotate until parallelism is restored. In a modification applied to the training o! guns, the quick control motor rotates the gun platform, and the slow control motor rotates the gun carriage relatively to the platform.
