The callipers, compasses, and bevel are mounted on the same pivot 4 and in the closed position, Fig. 2, lie on the faces' of the block; the bevel and square fit in slits 12 within an edge 9 of the block. In use the instruments are swung out and are clamped in required position by wing- nuts. A separate pivot is provided for the square 11 with a stop 14 to ensure that it shall be set at right angles to the edge 7. The tape-measure 16, mounted on a spring-controlled drum in a recess within the block, is withdrawn through a slit at one end, and the spirit-level 8 is sunk in the edge 9 of the block.

The length measuring apparatus is especially designed to measure the adjusting and setting distances on machine tools. A measuring wheel cooperates with a measuring surface. The wheel operates an indicating system. The complete measured path is shown upon a scale scroll against a fixed pointer. Extended finer measurements are shown on a further scale scroll with an adjustable pointer. An adjusting element (17) can change both scales. By gently pressing inwards and turning, the scale with the extended finer measurements can be altered, while an additional pressing and turning of the element (17) enables the other scale to be altered.

The length measuring apparatus is especially designed to measure the adjusting and setting distances on machine tools. A measuring reel (3) reaches upon a tensioned steel band (9). An indicating system (4, 5) is coupled with the reel (3) to show the distance covered. The band (9) is set at a tangent to the reel (3) and is pressed against it from another reel (18). After the band (9) has passed the measuring reel (3) it can be wound upon a further reel by the force of a spring. Alternatively, the band tension can be produced by a suspended weight. A toggle can be used to ensure identical spring tension or weight value for regular band tension so avoiding inaccuracies caused by stretching.

The length measurement is carried out by means of a steel band (7) fixed at a reference point to a screw shaped cylindrical measuring drum (5). The drum (5) turns against the tension of a return spring when the housing carrying the drum is pushed. The first turn of the steel band (7) on the drum (5) is fixed to a gradation equal to the width of the band. Elements either press the band axially or rotate close axially in front of the band to ensure a tight winding of the following turns of the steel band.

Current techniques for measuring chemical expansion in thin film structures are too slow, too imprecise, or require synchrotrons. In contrast, nanoscale electrochemomechanical spectroscopy (NECS) can be used to make nanoscale measurements at time scales of seconds with simple contact or non-contact sensors. In a NECS measurement, a sample, such as thin-film oxide structure, is subjected to a temporally modulated stimulus, such as a sinusoidally alternating voltage. The stimulus causes the sample to expand, contract, deflect, or otherwise deform. A sensor, such as a contact probe or optical sensor, produces an electrical signal in response to this deformation that is correlated with the temporal modulation of the stimulus. Because the stimulus and deformation are correlated, the temporal modulation of the stimulus can be used to filter the deformation signal produced by the sensor, producing a precise, sensitive measurement of the deformation. 1. The invention relates to a handheld measurement instrument and a configurator forming a measurement kit. The measuring instrument and the configurator are provided each with an interface, enabling communication between the measuring instrument and the configurator. The handheld measurement instrument further comprises a measuring unit for measuring distances or angles of an object by contacting physically distinct points of said object; and a circuit unit applying a function of a functionality on electronic signals/electronic measurement results delivered from the measuring unit in order to deliver the measuring results in a desired form to the user by output means. The form the results should be presented can be selected by the user using input means of the measuring instrument. The circuit unit is configurable by the user using the configurator in order to determine, with which functionality the circuit unit and the input means, respectively should be equipped.

A coupling portion has one end coupleable to a distal end of a measurement spindle. The measurement spindle is disposed on a gauge inspector and movable in a measurement axis direction. A cylindrical stem is insertable into a gauge holding member to hold the inserted stem. The stem slidably holds a spindle having a distal end on which a contact point of a gauge is disposed. A frame has a first end coupled to a second end of the coupling portion and has a second end to which the gauge holding member is mountable. The gauge holding member is held to the frame such that an axis of the stem runs along the measurement axis direction. As a result, inspection is performed easily and accurately in a reverse posture with a contact point facing upward when a gauge is inspected.
