A dispensing ball-valve 10 comprises a valve body formed from a top half member 14 and a bottom half member 16, enclosing a dispensing ball 20 with a fixed volume cavity therein. The ball 20 is rotatable in the valve body about axis 58 to dispense a metered quantity of a granular solid material (figure 2, not shown). The two halves of the valve body 14, 16 define bosses 54, 56 which are provided with grooves for accommodating resilient O-rings 60, 62. The O-rings 60, 62 and bosses 54, 56 therefore form a resilient biasing means which biases the two parts of the valve body together. If a particle of the solid being dispensed becomes trapped between ball 20 and valve body 14, 16, then the O-rings 60, 62 tend to deform elastically and the two housing members 14, 16 are forced apart slightly. This prevents the ball-valve dispenser from jamming.

A dispensing apparatus adapted to dispense powered products, such as protein that tends to compact and stick together, from a storage container into a dispensing chute using a hard rotatable ball or other member that contains one or more elongated slots or cavities. This invention relates to a sampling device. The device includes an elongate separating member having a sampling side and a non-sampling side. One or more through openings extend from the sampling side to the non-sampling side of the elongate member. The separating member is adapted for insertion into a reservoir of particulate material so as to define a sampling zone and a non-sampling zone within the reservoir. A shaft is positioned away from the sampling side and operably associated with the separating member, wherein the shaft is selectively rotatable about its longitudinal axis. One or more sample capturing scoops are attached to the shaft so as to be aligned with a respective opening. The or each scoop has a leading edge, a trailing edge and a cavity for receiving a sample of particulate material. [Class 106 (v)] In apparatus for delivering measured quantities of granular and like materials a pocketed measuring rotor 13, Fig. 6, mounted between a supply hopper 10 and an outlet 12 is adapted to be rotated by an operating member 27 acting in conjunction with a scale or its equivalent 30, Fig. 3, and capable of being moved from a position of rest into a position determined by a stop, the extent of the movement being selected in accordance with the scale so that the contents of one or a number of measuring pockets may be discharged by a single movement of the operating member. The capacity of the measuring pockets may be varied by means of projections 21 carried by a plate 19 and adjustable axially within the pockets by means of a screwed spindle 22 which is held in adjusted position by the engagement of a spring 25 in depressions 20 on the plate. The operating drum 27 drives the rotor through gearing and is formed with slots 29 for engagement by the finger of the operator who rotates the drum until the finger presses down a lever 31 against the action of a spring until it engages a stop pin 41 (not shown). As the rotor turns, its pockets discharge into a tray 34 which is tipped by the downward movement of the lever 31 to discharge its contents. A scale 30 indicates in what position on the drum the finger should be placed for the delivery of a given quantity of material. In a modified form the rotor is operated through ratchet mechanism by a number of keys or levers. Poor control of the feed rate can cause problems due to temperature fluctuations within the fluidized bed. Disclosed herein is a method for controlling the flow of supported particulate catalyst through a unit body rotary disc catalyst feeder, the method involving a feeder with means for feeding an inert gas, such as nitrogen, to the upper surface of the metering disk. The method describes controlling the rate of catalyst leaving the feeder by changing one or more of the speed of rotation of the metering disk, the pressure of nitrogen fed to the upper surface of the metering disk, and the volume of nitrogen fed to the upper surface of the metering disk.

The treatment vessel-side opening of the second chamber is closed by a lid connected to the metering device. The lid, in the dispensing position of the metering and dispensing device, uncovers a discharge opening, from which the metered detergent is fed gradually to the treatment vessel. A gas blast structure is provided for supplying a blast of gas to the pocket to effect discharge of material from the pocket when it is in communication with the outlet port. A vent is provided immediately before the inlet port in the direction of rotation of the roller, the access opening being dimensioned with respect to the vent and inlet port so that it can communicate with both during a portion of path of rotation thereof.

A volumetric metering device for granular or powdery materials, specially for additives to the mixing funnel of a plastic processing machine, uses a perforated revolving disc inside a metering casing which has on top an inlet hole for the additive from a hopper. The inlet hole has the same dia. as the disc perforation. The inlet is situated upstream of a scraper and at a small distance from the outlet from the metering casing. This prevents materials such as PVC compound mixes and soft PVC granules from being compacted in the perforations and ensures a trouble free emptying of the metered material.

The upper surface of the element 5 and sealing member 9 are of P.T.F.E. Rotation of the plate may be effected by a motor driving the shaft 4 or directly driving the plate, or manually. The element 5 and sealing member 9 are preferably spring-urged against the plate. Counting means may be provided for counting the number of measures dispensed. The plate may include a further series of concentrically arranged chambers of different volumes to those illustrated. The feed pipe may fully register with only one chamber at a time or alternatively may register with a plurality of chambers. The chambers are so dimensioned that The Specification also discloses a method of dispensing a volume of material using a measuring chamber having dimensions satisfying the above relationships. The measuring chamber(s) may have any cross-section satisfying the above relationship, e.g. a circle, a square, an oblong, or a regular hexagon.

In an apparatus for delivering selectable amounts of dust-laden gas, the base structure thereof includes support means having a substantially horizontal and circular recess in which is rotatably supported a circular disk having a plurality of transverse openings defining a circle coaxial with the disk. A cover partially covers the disk and has a dust container mounted thereon for selective communication with the transverse openings in the disk. The dust container and the circular recess define a substantially airtight chamber. A pair of coaxial openings are provided through the cover and support means for successive alignment with the transverse openings as the disk rotates and are in communication with a source of pressurized gas, whereby pressurized gas can be directed through a dust-laden transverse opening which is aligned with the coaxial openings. A leakage space is provided between the disk and cover so that when no transverse opening is aligned with the coaxial openings, the pressurized gas passes through the leakage space into the dust container.
