The apparatus comprises two liquid level detectors 16, 18 each comprising a float 30 and a pneumatic sensor 38 which responds to the rise and fall of it's corresponding float 30. The two floats are designed to respond to liquids of different specific gravities, e.g. one will float on water but not on petrol and the other will float on both water and petrol. The two sensors provide an indication, such as an audible or visible alarm, of firstly whether a liquid is present and secondly whether the liquid has a specific gravity above or below a predetermined value, e.g. they can indicate whether the liquid is water or a hydrocarbon. The apparatus is intended for use in sumps, such as those found in garage forecourts, to warn of the presence of a hazardous liquid before purging the sump. Sensing apparatus comprising a float mounted on a pivotal arm (see figure 4), and sensing apparatus comprising a float movable relative to a raft (see figures 6, 7 and 8) is also disclosed.

A liquid level and density measurement device is disclosed. The device comprises an elongated magnetostrictive transducer and at least two transducer magnets embedded into floats that can freely move along a transducer. One float is relatively more sensitive to liquid density variation than the other float. The less sensitive float is used for liquid level measurement and the more sensitive float is used for liquid density measurement. The liquid density float has a lower part completely immersed into a liquid and an upper part partially immersed into a liquid. The upper part is made substantially in the form of a hollow cylinder with an internal diameter larger than the external diameter of the liquid level float. Therefore the liquid density float can move up and down without touching the liquid level float.

A fill level indicator assembly for an agricultural material bin such as a seed dispensing hopper. The assembly includes an elongate sighting member which provides a water impermeable cover over an indicator opening in the bin cover and has a transparent portion providing visual access to the interior of the sighting member. An indicator rod extends through the indicator opening and has a distinctive marking located near one end. The opposite end of the indicator member has a foot which engages the agricultural material within the bin. Gravity causes the indicator member to lower as the quantity of agricultural material within the bin is depleted. As the indicator member lowers, the distinctive marking within the sighting member is also lowered thereby providing a visual indication of the quantity of material remaining in the bin.

A ball float alarm emits a signal when a liquid rises above a predetermined level inside a sump. The alarm is activated by conditions related to the rising and falling of the liquid in the cavity. The alarm emits a signal when the liquid rises above the predetermined level, and then powers off when the liquid falls beneath the predetermined level. A buoyant sphere is supported by a cable from above the cavity. The alarm floats on the liquid when the liquid level is above a predetermined level. When the sphere floats, the cable is lax. The lax cable causes a magnet and an alarm contact inside the alarm to pivotally join, and thus actuate an alarm signal. When the liquid falls below the predetermined level in the cavity, the cable becomes lax, causing the alarm contact to pivot distally from the magnet, which shuts off the alarm.

An improved fluid level sensor includes a radially magnetized magnet integrated into a float, and a Hall sensor adapted to monitor the magnet field emitted from the magnet. This arrangement provides a continuously variable signal across a range of travel, such that a controller receiving the signal can produce precise fluid level measurements and detect operational states of an associated device based on fluid behavior. In addition, the present fluid level sensor is suitable for use in harsh service environments, both because it is physically resilient to fouling, and because the controller is capable of detecting fouling by sensor behavior. In the context of a steam cooker, the present fluid level sensor can also sense low-water, overfill and fouling conditions, while remaining relatively insensitive to food residue, water scale buildup, corrosion and foaming.

A system and method for measuring fluids include a vessel containing at least two fluids with a drain pipe, a seal housing, a tool assembly, and a float assembly. The seal housing fits onto the drain pipe of existing vessels or tanks, and the tool assembly and float assembly are inserted through the seal housing to the vessel to measure the fluids inside the tank. The tool assembly has a shaft section and a flexible section. The flexible section extends into the vessel and through any bend in the drain pipe so that the system is compatible with retrofitting vessels with different drain pipe shapes. The float assembly can be released from the end of the bent drain pipe to float to the fluid boundary between different fluids in the vessel. A reflective target plate for mounting on a floating roof of a tank for ensuring satisfactory reflection of radar signals emitted from a radar level gauge towards the floating roof. The plate comprises a plurality of elongated grooves, each formed by two flat, radar reflective surfaces facing each other, normals of the surfaces being perpendicular to each other. A first set of elongated grooves has grooves extending with their longitudinal axis in a first direction, and a second set of elongated grooves has grooves extending with their longitudinal axis in a second direction, the first and second directions being perpendicular to each other. Disclosed herein is a Hall-effect liquid level sensing apparatus and method. The device may be mounted on a liquid storage tank and includes at least one float suspended within the tank and floating upon a hollow tube for guidance. The float carries a permanent magnet and a Hall-effect sensor may be reciprocated within the hollow tube to sense the location of the permanent magnet and thereby the location of the float. The device further includes a control device including an optical encoder which enables the device to sense the depth in the hollow tube to which the Hall-effect device has travelled when it senses the height of the permanent magnet. The invention may be used in conjunction with a plurality of floats to determine not only the liquid level but also the level between the liquid and a diverse liquid contained within the same container. In this embodiment, the invention may also be used in conjunction with a specific gravity measuring device so as to ensure that the pressure sensing orifice of the specific gravity measuring device is suspended within the liquid the specific gravity of which is desired to be measured.

The present invention relates to water leak measurement of underwater structures, and discloses an apparatus for measuring water leaks in an underwater structure comprising a leak measurement cover unit. By quantitatively or numerically measuring a water leakage pressure head, a leakage amount and a flow rate for water leakage that occurs in cracks in underwater concrete structures such as concrete dams, multi-function weirs, underwater beams, drop holes, and sluice gates, it is possible to quantitatively or numerically determine an effect of reducing leakage before and after repair. The apparatus for measuring water leaks in an underwater structure measures the water leakage pressure head, leakage amount and flow rate for water leakage that occurs in water where concrete structures such as concrete dams, multi-function weirs, underwater beams, drop holes, and sluice gates are installed.
