A signal may be transmitted from a data line electrically connected to a pixel electrode (PXL, Figure 3A) through a switching transistor (SWT) and may detect fingerprint information after a driving voltage is applied to the pixel electrode. The device can thus detect a fingerprint without the need for a separate fingerprint sensor outside a display panel, thus simplifying manufacturing. A signal having a turn-on voltage may be used to start a fingerprint-sensing mode, and there may be a charging period preceding a sensing period (Figure 29). Some regions of the display panel could continue showing an image during the fingerprint sensing mode.

A substantially sub-oxidized ITO or metallic indium-tin (InSn) film is sputter-deposited onto a glass substrate at room temperature. The glass substrate with the as-deposited film thereon is subjected to elevated temperatures. Thermal tempering or heat strengthening causes the as-deposited film to be transformed into a crystalline transparent conductive ITO film. Advantageously, this may reduce the cost of touch panel assemblies, e.g., because of the higher rates of the ITO deposition in the metallic mode. The cost of touch-panel assemblies may be further reduced through the use of float glass.

An electric field may be produced by each image pixel electrode that extends through a liquid crystal layer to an associated portion of the ground plane. The slits in the ground plane may have a slit width. Data lines may be located sufficiently below the ground plane and sufficiently out of alignment with the slits to minimize crosstalk from parasitic electric fields. A three-column inversion scheme may be used when driving data line signals into the display, so that pairs of pixels that straddle the slits are each driven with a common polarity. Gate line scanning patterns may be used that enhance display uniformity.

According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal display includes a display region including a plurality of display pixels arrayed in a matrix, an array substrate including a plurality of first electrodes which are arrayed in a matrix, a plurality of first sensors which extend in a column direction on the first electrodes, and a plurality of second sensors which extend in a row direction substantially perpendicular to the column direction and are electrically connected to the first sensors, a countersubstrate which is arranged to face the array substrate, and a liquid crystal layer which is interposed between the array substrate and the countersubstrate. The first sensors include omitted portions which connect adjacent regions surrounded by the first sensors and the second sensors.

A capacitive touch sensor laminate for use in a display panel device includes: a dielectric central substrate structure made of a transparent resin material and formed to have flat surfaces, respectively, on opposite sides thereof; a at least one-layer structured coat layer made of a transparent material, formed on each of the flat surfaces, and including at least one refractive index adjusting layer for suppressing visibility of an electrode pattern formed by the transparent electrically conductive layer; and a transparent electrically conductive layer formed on and in adjacent relation to the coat layer. The at least one-layer structured coat layers formed on respective ones of the flat surfaces are configured such that thicknesses of corresponding layers therein on respective opposite sides of the dielectric central substrate structure are set to allow the corresponding layers to become mutually symmetrical across the dielectric central substrate structure.

The present invention provides a slim frame backlight module, which includes a backplane, a backlight source arranged inside the backplane, a side reflector plate arranged inside the backplane, and a light guide plate arranged inside the backplane. The light guide plate includes a bottom surface, a top surface opposite to the bottom surface, and at least one light incident surface connecting between the bottom surface and the top surface. The light incident surface is set inwardly inclined with respect to the top surface, so that the light incident surface and the top surface form therebetween an included angle less than 90°. Light emitting from the backlight source can be reflected by the side reflector plate to the light incident surface or is directly projected to the light incident surface to transmit through the light incident surface into the light guide plate.
