The processor controls the digital display to display digital time information, and activates the stepper motors of the date and month timing units to drive the date and month needles for display of analog calendar time information. A main timing unit is disposed on the clock body and has a stepper motor that is used to drive minute and hour needles, and that is disconnected from the controller.

An electronic device comprising a secondary display made up of a plurality of display segments each of which is made up of a multilayered assembly comprising a transparent substrate having a first and a second surface transparent electrically conductive layer formed on the second surface of the transparent substrate; an electroluminescent layer formed on the transparent conductive layer; an insulating layer formed on the electroluminescent layer; and an electrically conductive layer formed on the insulating layer; and including means for selectively illuminating electroluminescent layers of each of the plurality of display segments, wherein light emanating from the illuminated electroluminescent layers during an illuminated condition passes through the transparent substrate; whereby secondary information is provided by the selected illumination of the electroluminescent layers.

This is achieved by providing at least one flat side surface on the fastener which reduces interference with the light emitted from the light source such that uniform luminance is provided around the through-hole. In an alternative solution the fastener comprises a light incident member, a reflection member and a light exiting member. Light from the light source if thus transmitted through the fastener and exits towards a dark region around the through hole.
