The electronic clock circuit, has a time base generator (1) such as a bistable circuit which excites a frequency divider (2) and has three NAND gates stages (N1, N2, N3). The time base frequency is demultiplied to a final frequency of one Hertz. This final frequency signal is supplied to a stepping device (3) which actuates an optoelectronic or a pointer device at every second of time. By means of a push button switch (10) the state of the first two NAND gates (N1, N2) may be change to give additional pulses to the third NAND gate (N3) and consequently actuate the stepping device (3). Correction of the indicated time may then be obtained.

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electronic watch wherein pulses from a high-frequency standard are converted by a frequency divider into low-frequency timing pulses which are supplied to a stepping motor to advance the hands of the time display. In order to automatically effect a rapid correction of the seconds hand display when it deviates from precise time, a system is provided that includes an actuating element accessible to the user of the watch and operatively coupled to a switch connected through a reset line to several of the last stages of the frequency divider to effect a reset thereof upon activation of the switch. Also reset when the switch is activated is a reference counter supplied with pulses by the frequency divider. The divider feeds pulses by way of a logic circuit to the stepping motor and to a synchronous counter which is maintained in synchronism with the time display. A com-parator circuit determines whether a deviation exists be-tween the two counters and acts to govern the number of pulses per unit of time that the logic circuit supplies to the stepping motor and to the synchronous counter to an extent correcting for the deviation. The logic circuit is so connected to the outputs of the resettable divider stages that the transmission of pulses from the divider to the two counters can only be carried out during a pulse transfer period whose duration is no longer than the last quarter of the longest duration pulse period of the di-vider. Resetting of the frequency divider is inhibited during the transfer period.

The setting wheel is coupled to the gear train by a friction pinion at a point in the train which is approximately midway between the motor pinion and the cannon pinion and hour wheel so that the blacklash generated in moving the hands clockwise in a setting operation is approximately equal to the backlash generated in moving the hands counterclockwise. The electronic circuit includes means for generating pulses at the conclusion of a setting operation so as to compensate for the blacklash in the gear train. Since the backlash is approximately the same regardless of the direction the hands are moved in the setting operation substantially complete compensation for the backlash can be attained regardless of the direction in which the hands are moved.

1512613 Electronic timepieces DAINI SEIKOSHA KK 1 April 1976 [3 April 1975] 13197/76 Heading G3T An electronic timepiece is provided with a single setting switch which is held closed for more than one second, to retard the time displayed, and which causes the display to advance one step each time it is held closed for less than one second. In Fig. 1, a quartz crystal controlled oscillator circuit 1 feeds a 32768 Hz signal to a frequency divider chain 2. A timing reference pulse train at 1 Hz and appropriate width is produced by a waveforming gate circuit 3 which combines the outputs of divider stages F 1 0 -F 1 5 . In normal operation the timing signal is applied via an inverter 10 and a NOR gate 11 to a time measuring and displaying means 12, e.g. a stepping motor driving hands- OPERATION. To advance the time displayed, a setting switch 13 is closed for less than 1 second a logic "1" signal is fed to the NOR gate 11 by anti-chatter switching circuit 16. NOR 11 consequently cuts off the supply of the timing reference signal to the display. A counter 27 starts to count pulses of the 32 Hz output of divider stage F 1 o and would produce an output pulse at Q on reaching a count of 32 but is reset at the termination of the signal from switching circuit 16 before it reaches a count of 32. Thus outputs of counter 27 and a resetting circuit 28 will remain at "0". At the instant the said signal from 16 terminates, a first pulse generator 34 sets a flip-flop 41 the output of which after inversion at 44 controls AND gates 4 to 7. Consequently a logic "1" correcting pulse P 1 is produced by a NOR gate 9 as soon as the output from divider stage F 10 goes to "0". The pulse P 1 is inverted at 10 and applied to the time display means 12 via the NOR gate 11, the other input of which is logic "0" since the signal from switching circuit 16 had previously terminated. Disclosed is a circuit for generating in a pulse motor drive coil an initial pulse motor drive pulse in a unit length of time during which a second hand is driven by one step, after resetting for time correction has been released. The reset signal is applied to the delay circuit and at least a frequency divider stage producing the signal the period of which equals the unit length of time.

In Fig.3, the time standard signal is applied at terminal 20. When a reset signal P applied at 21 is high (H) the standard signals # o and # o in antiphase reach the divider via a NAND gate 23 and inverter 24. Each stage 25 to 32 of the divider is a binary divider without a reset means and comprising a master flip-flop (17) and slave flip-flop (18) as in a known arrangement Fig. 1 (not shown) but modified by replacing NAND gates (11, 15) by inverters. Each stage 33 to 38 is a binary divider circuit as Fig. 2 and provided with a reset means applied to the slave flip-flop 18 at terminal 5. A high (H) signal P 21 (Fig.3) permits the binary divider stages 33 to 38 to carry out a normal dividing function, from 16, 384 HZ down to 1 HZ, and by the action of a half period (¢ D) delay circuit 39 and a NAND circuit 40 there is obtained an output at 22 comprising a low (L) signal of 1/64 sec. width and 1 sec. period. This output is applied to a drive circuit (not shown) for indicating time. With signal P at low (L) level, the inverter 24, the divider chain 25 to 38, the delay circuit 39 and NAND circuit 40 come to a rest state. Power consumption will thus be negligible if the watch is maintained at rest for a long time, although the timing oscillator will continue to operate. Thus to set the time indicated to the correct time, a low level reset signal P is applied at instant t o Fig.4 (not shown), so that 20, 24, 25-38, 39, 40 come to rest. 1399024 Electronic timepieces SOC SUISSE POUR L'INDUSTRIE HORLOGERE MANAGEMENT SERVICES SA 22 June 1973 [12 July 1972] 32577/72 Heading G3T Relates to modification of the seconds display setting and correcting arrangement in an electronic timepiece incorporating a frequency divider chain operating a time display, particularly via a stepping motor, as disclosed and claimed in Specification 1385890. In the modification a single control push button switch is used to add seconds to or block seconds from the time display. The timepiece Fig. 1, has a main divider chain, only stages 9 to 18 being shown. Stages 17 and 18 are, in normal operation, set and reset alternately each second to control complementary transistor pairs which pass current alternately in opposite directions through a motor M. A manually operable setting switch P is followed by an integrator I to suppress effects of any irregularities in switch contact. A predetermined delay T D is set by a second sequence of dividers 20-23, and is initiated by the closure of switch P 1 . For each closure of switch P a second is added, i.e. time display is advanced by 1 sec. If the switch is maintained closed for longer than period TD, firstly 1 sec. is added during the period TD and then the "seconds" are suppressed or blocked. Normally the stages 20-23 are disabled when P is open, a transistor T 1 being saturated. When P is closed an output from an inverter N blocks T 1 and stages 20-23 count signals received from stage 10. During this time the leading edge of signal Q from stage 12 will switch a flip-flop 19 which in turn switches a toggle 16 thus adding 1 sec to display. If P is released before the end of period T D i.e. before a flip-flop 24 is caused to change state, then 20-23 will be reset to zero and the main divider stages will be unaffected. If P is maintained closed for longer than T D , a transistor T 2 will saturate and remain so until P is released. For so long as T 2 is saturated, stage 11 ...

In an analogue electronic timepiece comprising a minute hand mounted on a cannon pinion, an hour hand mounted on an hour wheel, a motor driven by pulses produced by an electronic circuit and a gear train connecting the motor pinion with the cannon pinion and hour wheel, means for setting the minute hand and hour hand to amend the time displayed by the timepiece comprises a setting wheel which is rotatable by a crown wheel in one direction for moving the hands clockwise and in the opposite direction for moving the hands counterclockwise. The setting wheel is coupled to the gear train by a friction pinion at a point in the train which is approximately midway between the motor pinion and the cannon pinion and hour wheel so that the blacklash generated in moving the hands clockwise in a setting operation is approximately equal to the backlash generated in moving the hands counterclockwise. The electronic circuit includes means for generating pulses at the conclusion of a setting operation so as to compensate for the blacklash in the gear train. Since the backlash is approximately the same regardless of the direction the hands are moved in the setting operation substantially complete compensation for the backlash can be attained regardless of the direction in which the hands are moved.

The contacts of the impulse collector, generating mutually timewise displaced but still overlapping impulses whose frequency is proportional to the relative speed between the impulse transmitter and the impulse collector and whose phase position, in essence the phase lead and phase lag, is dependent upon the relative direction of rotation between the impulse transmitter and the impulse collector.

A device for correcting running of an electronic watch comprises two contactors acting on respective bistable circuits in turn acting on a combinatory circuit controlling a counter which provides binary correction information to an inhibitor circuit. The latter is arranged to inhibit a number of pulses of a pulse generator having a predetermined nominal frequency above a given value, to set the frequency at said given value prior to division to provide accurate clock pulses fed to a device for indicating the time. Successive actuation of respective contactors corresponds to increasing or decreasing the number of inhibited pulses from an approximate number stored in a programmable memory.
