Extracorporeal blood treatment systems draw blood at such a high rate that a loss of integrity in the blood circuit can be serious. There are a number of mechanisms for detecting and preventing leaks, but none is perfect. This tends to limit the use of such equipment in unsupervised settings, such as the home will be limited. Some leak detection schemes can be made sensitive enough to detect the barest of leaks, but when this is done, they result in too many false positives. The invention combines information from multiple inputs to enhance sensitivity in leak detection and reduce the problem of false positives.

Robust low-level image features have been proven to be effective representations for a variety of visual recognition tasks such as object recognition and scene classification; but pixels, or even local image patches, carry little semantic meanings. For high-level visual tasks, such low-level image representations are potentially not enough. The present invention provides a high-level image representation where an image is represented as a scale-invariant response map of a large number of pre-trained generic object detectors, blind to the testing dataset or visual task. Leveraging on this representation, superior performances on high-level visual recognition tasks are achieved with relatively classifiers such as logistic regression and linear SVM classifiers.

Values of coefficients of unmixing filter corresponding to frequency bins are calculated by performing a gradient descent process on a cost function at least dependent on the coefficients of the unmixing filters. In each iteration of the gradient descent process, gradient terms for calculating the values of the same coefficient of the unmixing filters are adjusted to improve smoothness of gradient terms across the frequency bins. With respect to each of the frequency bins, source signals are estimated by filtering the transformed input signals through the respective unmixing filter configured with the calculated values of the coefficients. The estimated source signals on the respective frequency bins are transformed into time domain. The cost function is adapted to evaluate decorrelation between the estimated source signals.

Fast computation of kernel descriptors

An approach to computation of kernel descriptors is accelerated using precomputed tables. In one aspect, a fast algorithm for kernel descriptor computation that takes O(1) operations per pixel in each patch, based on pre-computed kernel values. This speeds up the kernel descriptor features under consideration, to levels that are comparable with D-SIFT and color SIFT, and two orders of magnitude faster than STIP and HoG3D. In some examples, kernel descriptors are applied to extract gradient, flow and texture based features for video analysis. In tests of the approach on a large database of internet videos used in the TRECVID MED 2011 evaluations, the flow based kernel descriptors are up to two orders of magnitude faster than STIP and HoG3D, and also produce significant performance improvements. Further, using features from multiple color planes produces small but consistent gains.

For very unbalanced learning problems, the number of non-zero training examples can be much smaller than the number of zeros in the full dataset. For some problems where the squared norm can be efficiently computed, the training time complexity can be reduced. A method herein receives a binary tensor defined by matrices comprising elements in a database. A processing device determines an upper bound for non-quadratic losses associated with factorization of the binary tensor. The upper bound is based on a variation parameter. The processing device performs factorization of the binary tensor by alternately minimizing the upper bound with respect to the variation parameter and minimizing the upper bound with respect to the elements of the matrices using a gradient descent method.

An inspection system according to one aspect of the present invention acquires a plurality of learning data sets respectively including a combination of image data and correct answer data, and sets a difficulty level of determination for each of the learning data sets in accordance with a degree to which a result which is obtained by determining the acceptability of a product in the image data of each of the learning data sets by a first discriminator conforms to a correct answer indicated by the correct answer data. Besides, the inspection system constructs a second discriminator that determines the acceptability of the product by executing stepwise machine learning in which the learning data sets are utilized in ascending order of the set difficulty level.
