Techniques for performing a process during a real time collaboration by multiple users or clients on a spreadsheet file are disclosed herein which may permit calculations to be performed locally by at least one of the clients. By doing so, increases in performance are realized since only data updates need to be provided to the host machine. As such, a determination is preferably made whether calculations performed locally can result in different data. If conflicting data is a possibility, then the calculations for the spreadsheet file will usually be performed remotely by a host machine. If not, then each client capable of doing so will perform the calculations locally and then provide only the updated data to the host machine. The determination of whether to perform the calculations locally or not may also be made dynamically, such as when one or more new formulas are added to the spreadsheet file.

Specific rules set out conditions for modifying the master template for the specific context. These specific rules are used to define a new variation document, which is applied against the master template to generate a context-specific modified template. The context-specific modified template is then used to generate a context-specific executable document that, when executed, generates a final context-specific product.

A server enforces a policy for selecting what received change to process. The non-selected changes are not processed by the server. Instead, after the selected change is processed and is incorporated into the current version of the text, the server sends an update to each of the clients indicating the change made to the current version of text. A client performs a conflict resolution procedure when its change was not processed by the server. The conflict resolution procedure detects the differences between the updated text version and its text change that was not accepted by the server and uses the differences to deduce the intent of the user and come up with a merged version of the text which preserves the intent and avoids data loss. The updated version is then sent back to the server to update the current version of the text.

Various embodiments provide techniques for time-based viewing of electronic documents. Examples of electronic documents include websites, webpages, text documents, web-based documents, and so on. In at least some embodiments, a time-based viewer is provided that enables a user to select a particular date and/or time for which to view an electronic document. The user can then navigate through the electronic document and view how the document will appear or did appear at the selected date and/or time. In at least some embodiments, a page container is provided that can include definitions for different versions of a page of an electronic document. According to some embodiments, the different versions of the page can correspond to different publication dates for the page. In some implementations, the time-based viewer can access a page container to retrieve a particular version of a page for display.

A first suggested edit to the electronic document is received from a reviewer, and a markup version of the electronic document is updated to reflect the first suggested edit. An acceptance or a rejection of the first suggested edit is received from an editor. In response to receiving an acceptance of the first suggested edit, the first suggested edit is converted to an accepted edit, yielding a second updated markup version. The clean version of the electronic document is updated with the accepted edit, and the updated clean version is published.

The generated documents may be made available to receiving parties for additional input or processing. In some embodiments, documents are made available in compliance with statutory or regulatory requirements regarding the proper service of the documents. The publication can be made through application programming interface (API) calls handled by a first sharing module API, a repository API, a second sharing module API, and a content consumption system API. These APIs together provide a one-to-one mapping of communications protocols used by the managed repository and the external system. The share in the managed repository and the share published to the content consumption system are synced and any conflict between the two is detected and resolved. A layout engine written in a platform-specific language parses the UI layout description and transforms it to a native view using native UI components. The app on each platform has its own layout engine, but each can use the same layout description to generate a native view. Thus, a UI can be built once for all of the platforms.
