It comprises extracting a plurality of face frames and one or more time stamps from the video of the user, determining at least one region of interest (ROI) in the plurality of face frames using a histogram of oriented gradients (HOG) and extracting a plurality of health indicator signals by detecting volumetric changes in a peripheral blood circulation in the at least one ROI based on a remote photoplethysmography (RPPG). One or more vital signs of the user based on the plurality of health indicator signals and the one or more time stamps may then be estimated.

Shape features in natural images influence emotions aroused in human beings. An in-depth statistical analysis helps to understand the relationship between shapes and emotions. Through experimental results on the International Affective Picture System (IAPS) dataset, evidence is presented as to the significance of roundness-angularity and simplicity-complexity on predicting emotional content in images. Shape features are combined with other state-of-the-art features to show a gain in prediction and classification accuracy. Emotions are modeled from a dimensional perspective in order to predict valence and arousal ratings, which have advantages over modeling the traditional discrete emotional categories. Images are distinguished vis-a-vis strong emotional content from emotionally neutral images with high accuracy. All of the methods and steps disclosed herein are implemented on a programmed digital computer, which may be a stand-alone machine or integrated into another piece of equipment such as a digital still or video camera including, in all embodiments, portable devices such as smart phones.

Methods and systems for searching for and retrieving video content via fingerprint matching are described. In some example embodiments, the methods and systems access an index of reference fingerprints, such as quantized values associated with multiple values calculated from patches of a frame, that are associated with sequential frames of known video content. The methods and systems may receive a search query that includes a group of query fingerprints associated with sequential frames of video content presented at a client device, access the index, compare the group of query fingerprints to reference fingerprints of the index, determine that the group of query fingerprints match the reference fingerprints of the index, and identify the video content presented at the client device based on the determined match.

Software for supervised learning extracts a set of pixel-level features from each source image in collection of source images. Each of the source images is associated with a thumbnail created by an editor. The software also generates a collection of unique bounding boxes for each source image. And the software calculates a set of region-level features for each bounding box. Each region-level feature results from the aggregation of pixel values for one of the pixel-level features. The software learns a regression model, using the calculated region-level features and the thumbnail associated with the source image. Then the software chooses a thumbnail from a collection of unique bounding boxes in a new image, based on application of the regression model. The software uses a thumbnail received from an editor instead of the chosen thumbnail, if the chosen thumbnail is of insufficient quality as measured against a scoring threshold.
