Improvements in Automatic Recording Apparatus for Sawing and similar Machines.

Indicating time of working and output of machines. - The recording-drum of the apparatus, which is actuated directly by the deals &c. passing through a sawing-machine, is driven at a rate dependent upon the width of the deals and the feed-speed; the drum may thus be made to revolve at a rate corresponding to the actual units of work done by the machine, which may be recorded in monetary units, or at a rate dependent upon the scale of wages paid, which may differ for different classes of work. A second recording - drum is provided, which is also actuated by the deals and rotates uniformly, no matter what the feed-speed may be; this drum records the output of the machine is a percentage of the maximum theoretical output. One of the rollers which are engaged by the deals in their passage through the machine is divided into three sections 1, 2, 3, Fig. 2, of which the lowest one 1 only is actuated by the deals of least width, and which consequently have the highest feed-speed; deals of a width greater than this engage the lower two sections 1, 2, and so on. The sections are loosely mounted and actuate a shaft 11 through spur and pawl-and-ratchet gearing of increasing velocity-ratios, so that when, e.g., all the three sections are actuated, the highest one 3 alone drives the shaft 11 through the pawl-and-ratchet gearing 12, 15, the other pawls 12 slipping over the teeth of their ratchet-wheels 14, 13 respectively. The shaft 11 drives a worm-shaft 23 through the variable gearing 16, 17 ... 21 shown, the wheels 19 to 21 of which are mounted on a sleeve 22. This sleeve is positioned through a lever 24 by the device for changing the feedspeed, so that one of the wheels 16 ... 18 is engaged with one of the wheels 19 ... 21, and drives a record-strip mounted on a drum 28 through the worm-wheel 26. In an example 11 beta, 17 alpha-21-trihydroxy-15,16 beta-methylene-pregnene (4)-3,20-dione, m.p. 219-221 degrees is obtained by microbiological hydroxylation of 17 alpha, 21-dihydroxy-15,16 beta-methylene-pregnene (4)-3,20-dione using Coniothyrium hellebori as organism.

The motor M also drives fast and slow interrupters for operating micro switches N2, N1 respectively. Manually operated switch buttons each corresponding to a different reason for idle time allow different circuits to be selected for energizing the magnet SM through N 1 , N 2 or neither N 1 nor N 2 with or without energizing TM thus producing characteristic traces like those shown on the buttons.

A system for the automatic supervision of the production of machines 11 comprises, in association with each machine, an electrical counter 1 electrically connected to a corresponding input device 4 which co-operates with a record card 6 carrying production data in a visually and mechanically readable form and, common to all machines, a control device 15 which, at predetermined time intervals or when selected, causes the production figures to be read out from the counter and, for each input device, scanning means for reading out production data so that it can be indicated or stored. Production data, including the order number, product and a quantity term, is recorded on the card 6 in a form 7 for reading by sight and by punched holes 8 for mechanical scanning. The card 6 is positioned in the input device 4 by an operative turning a key 9, the holes 8 are scanned to enter the data in an input store, the card actuates contacts to store the machine number and contacts are closed to enable the machine 11 to start producing. The number and combination of indents 10 of the key-bits are characteristic of the operative's working number whereby contacts are also actuated to store his number. Furthermore the cards are marked to distinguish productive and unproductive operations such as repairs. The data stored in any input device 12, comprising a counter 1 and device 4, corresponding to a machine 11, can be indicated on a panel 14 under the control of a device which can be operated selectively from a keyboard 15 or from a selector switch 18 at times predetermined by setting a timing device 19 comprising a clock and date indicator. A variable resistor 28 and a capacitor 23 together establish a time base to periodically turn on the transistor 15 and a thermistor 30 compensates for thermal variation of the capacitor 23. A two stage transistor control amplifier 40 is coupled to the oscillator 10 through a capacitor 34 and another capacitor 53 couples the two stages comprising transistors 37 and 45 to provide positive feedback for insuring that the amplifier does not cease conducting until a solenoid 54 has been energized. The solenoid 54 actuated by the amplifier 40 operates a counter 64 through linkage 62 and spring-loaded arm 61 so that it counts a pulse from the oscillator 10, e.g. every 3-6 seconds to register the elapsed time during which the engine is operating.

[Class 118 (i)] A progress tell-tale device for use in conjunction with a preplanned time schedule of operations, comprises a charting element, a tell-tale element and a cursor element, each relatively movable with respect to the other two and means for changing the appearance of indicators disposed on the charting surface as each stage of an operation is completed. The charting element comprises a drum 1 having a multiplicity of slot-shaped holes 19 arranged in rows and columns into which can be sprung bifurcated data holders which hold data cards by means of flanges. Date holders with date cards are attached to the top row of holes 19 thus allocating a date to each-column, the "dates" being equal intervale of time; e.g. hours, days or weeks. Pairs of triangular tongues on each data holder abut the drum surface and provide a clearance between those hung in close proximity while any one can be exposed by lifting the overlapping holders pivotally about their holes 19. Progress tallies, in the form of pieces of transparent celluloid of various colours to correspond with stages of progress, are placed in the data holders in front of the lower part of the data cards as and when appropriate. The drum 1 is freely mounted between flanges 5, 6 on discs 3, 4 which are screw-threaded on a central hub 2, the upper disc 3 being retained against an annular holder 1.0 on the hub by a handle 9 screwed thereto and bearing on a washer 8 in contact with a central boss 7 while the lower disc 4 is retained against a lock-nut 12 by a nut 13 screwed to the hub and bearing on a central boss 11, a washer 15 and circular foot 17 being freely mounted between a flange 14 of the nut 13 and the boss 11. A series of holes 37 are formed in the two flanges 5, 6 of. the discs 3, 4 corresponding in number and spacing with the columns of holes 19, but staggered so that each of a series of tell-tale cords 32 to 36 anchored ...
