The device disclosed in the present application is a compact and convenient mathematical manipulative that can be used to assist students who have varied modalities or learning styles (auditory, visual, tactile, vocal). The device essentially comprises two parallel, co-planar U-shaped “storage” and “operational” rods, with one prong of each U-shape connected to a support handle, and the remaining prong of each rod joined to each other via a short-segmented undulated horizontal segment. Each “operational” rod supports an even-numbered quantity of through-drilled beads which may be slidably positioned along the lengths of the storage and operational rods. The beads may be of a first color on one pair of rods and a second color on the opposite pair of rods and further, each rod is designated as either a negative (−) or (+) calculator. By manipulating the beads, a learner can readily understand concepts and operations such as whole number calculations, algebraic concepts, equations, and organizing thought processes.

Method, modules and a system formed by connecting the modules for controlling payloads are disclosed. An activation signal is propagated in the system from a module to the modules connected to it. A teaching method and system which effectively and efficiently teaches content to a user. The method includes administering a series of teaching topics to the user through a personal computing (PC) device, where each topic includes a lead problem and a plurality of secondary problems. As the user solves the problems within each topic, the PC device monitors and analyzes the user's cognitive ability based on which solution was found for each of the problems. Subsequently, the PC device alters which problems are then offered to the user at each incremental step to reflect the user's performance on the previously problems. This is achieved by using open-ended problems with an optimal solution and an at least one other solution. If the optimal solution is identified, then the user can skip certain problems. If the other solution is identified, the user is simply moved to the next problem within the topic. 1. The picture became so clear in my head that I picked up pencil and paper and wrote down the multiplication tables from 1 to 12 in four sets. I made my first model with note book paper. I folded one sheet for the holder and 4 additional sheets were folded into 4 sided rectangular blocks. One block has numbers 1-12 on one side. The numbers on this block are the Multipliers. I glued that block to the side of the paper to make it stationary. I folded the paper from the bottom to make space to hold the remaining 3 blocks. I typed the numbers of the multiplication table from 1 to 12 on my computer using excel, printed them out and glued individual rows from the table on the four sides of the 3 remaining blocks. The numbers on the top of these blocks are the Multiplicand and the numbers listed are the products. This paper prototype is shown in image on specification sheet #1. I took this paper prototype to the Maker Place in San Diego, where I instructed one of the wood work specialists to construct a second prototype using the paper prototype as a model, out of wood which is much closer to what I envisioned.
