WIRELESS LOCAL LOOPS INCLUDING HORIZONTALLY POLARIZED ANTENNAS

Номер: CA0002336636A1
Автор: TURSKI, ZYGMOND
Принадлежит:

Wireless local loops include primarily non-vertically polarized antennas. Preferably, the wireless local loop includes horizontally polarized antennas. By using primarily non-vertically polarized antennas in the WLL, interference between cellular, satellite and/or other radiotelephone communications systems, which employ predominantly vertically polarized antennas, can be reduced and preferably minimized. Conventional cellular and satellite radiotelephone systems use vertically polarized transmissions due to the vertical nature of the orientation of the mobile antennas on vehicles and/or mobile radiotelephones. However, in a WLL, with its fixed wireless telecommunications, there is no need to use vertically oriented antennas. Accordingly, to reduce interference, antennas that are primarily non- vertically polarized are used.

A patch antenna for achieving a vertically-polarized radiation pattern is described. The patch antenna includes a closed-curve slot within which a signal feed point is located. Parasitic slots are disposed outside or inside the closed-curve slot. In one embodiment, the closed-curve slot is a ring slot and the parasitic slots are arc slots having a common center point with the ring slot. The antenna may further include a lower patch capable of producing a different radiation pattern with different polarization and at a different frequency band, to result in a dual-band antenna. The dual-band antenna may operate in the 5.9 GHz DSRC and 1.575 GHz GPS bands.

DIELECTRIC LOADED MICROSTRIP PATCH ANTENNA

Номер: CA0002257526A1
Принадлежит:

A dielectric loaded microstrip patch antenna is provided to deliver relatively wide operational bandwidth dual-band, with relatively good isolation and flexibility for circular polarization, while having a compact design and light weight to suit mobile and wireless applications. The disclosed invention allows for (a) an antenna size reduction for a given operating frequency, (b) an enhancement of operational bandwidth, (c) dual-band and dual polarization operations. The invention operates on the principle that by properly loading a patch, its resonating frequency and its quality factor (Q) can be modified. The loading can be achieved using dielectric strips strategically placed under the patch. A preferred embodiment consists of a conducting patch with an air dielectric layer over a ground plane, dielectric strips, .epsilon.r1 and .epsilon.r2, and a feed network. The antenna operating frequency is controlled by the dielectric permittivity, dimensions and locations of the strips er1. The ...

A tri-polar antenna element for a beamforming antenna array has a pair of mutually orthogonal slots defining a first plane incorporating azimuthal and elevation directions. Between adjacent array elements, 0.5 wavelength spacing is provided in the azimuthal plane and 0.8 wavelength spacing in the elevation plane. The elements are sufficiently proximate to avoid forming grating lobes in a radiated signal. A dual feed network and patch radiator extend along second and third planes, parallel to and respectively below and above the first plane. A linear slot bisects the azimuthal and elevation directions along the first plane in the additional 0.3 wavelength spacing corresponding to the elevation plane. A linear feed network extends along the second plane in the additional 0.3 wavelength spacing below the linear slot. The invention provides 1.5 increase in antenna elements density, smallest physical footprint, and improves available power output by reducing combination power loss.

The extended ground is formed under a patch antenna, has a predetermined thickness, is formed of a metal conductor having the same shape as the patch antenna, and is electrically connected to a ground plane formed on a board. The thickness of the extended ground is adjusted, so that it is possible to adjust radiation efficiency of the ceramic patch antenna that operates at a specific frequency band. Thus, the ceramic patch antenna has the effect of improving directionality of a radiation pattern formed in a direction parallel to the ground plane, and the effect of reducing a null point caused by a field effect to increase an antenna gain thereof.

Frequency diverse phased-array antenna

Номер: US20180054006A1
Автор: Yan Wang
Принадлежит: Kacst, Tubis Technology Inc

A frequency diverse phased-array antenna operates simultaneously in two bands. A checkerboard of antenna elements for a first wavelength is offset with a second checkerboard of second antenna elements. Within the substrate is a three dimensional checkerboard of ground planes and ground walls which provide signal isolation between the bands. Multiple ground planes optimize operation at the several frequencies. Phased-array elements are isolated by a conductive wall in a multi-layer substrate. Orthogonal polarization of antenna patches further improve signal discrimination. Below the surface layer, another conductive wall isolates each quadrature hybrid. The conductive wall can be realized by metal vias or metal mesh enfused through a dielectric and surrounding a raised ground plane to isolate electrical fields at each frequency. A conductive wall also provides quadrature hybrid isolation.
