The electrical connector includes electrical contacts having mounting bases that are initially mechanically connected together by a connection strip. The connection strip is broken along the connection path such that the electrical contacts are separated from each other. The electrical connector also includes a insulator having a module side and an opposite component side. The mounting bases of the electrical contacts are mechanically connected to the insulator on the module side of the insulator. The insulator includes a punch opening that extends into the module side of the insulator. The punch opening is aligned with the connection path of the connection strip and is configured to receive a punch tool for breaking the connection strip.

A circuit board is at least partially disposed within the housing and includes an edge and a mating contact. An electrical connector is mounted to the circuit board and includes an electrical contact having a mounting segment that is configured to be electrically connected to the mating contact of the circuit board. The electrical connector includes a dielectric connector body that holds the electrical contact. The body has a base that is coupled to the edge of the circuit board and a locating boss that extends outwardly on the base. The locating boss is received within the locating opening of the housing and includes a crush rib that extends outwardly from the locating boss. The crush rib is deformed and engaged with the wall of the housing.

A guiding function of an annular contact upon mating/removal with/from an opposing connector can be maintained well with a simple configuration. An annular contact is formed with an unruptured annular member having no ruptured part in a circumferential direction and continued in the circumferential direction. As a result, compared with a conventional annular contact having ruptured parts in the circumferential direction, rigidity is increased while maintaining necessary elasticity; and, for example even when an opposing connector is mated or removed in a direction inclined in an axial direction with respect to the axial direction of the annular shape, conventional twisting deformation is suppressed in the annular contact, and the opposing connector is stably guided along the axial direction of the annular shape, thereby well maintaining a mating guiding function of the annular contact.

This invention relates to an electrical connection device on a plate-type or strip-type material ( 1, 1′ ), which cannot be soldered or is difficult to solder or which is provided with a surface that cannot be soldered or is difficult to solder, having the following characteristics. A self clutching bolt ( 5 ) is provided with a bolt head ( 7 ) that, relative to the bolt body ( 9 ) beneath, has a tapered cross section such that the bolt head ( 7 ) transitions, by way of a conical or shoulder-like sloping flank ( 11 ), into the bolt body ( 9 ) having an outer circumference ( 9′ ) that has a diameter larger than that of the bolt head ( 7 ). The outer circumference ( 9′ ) of the bolt body ( 9 ) is of smooth design, or is provided with a knurling ( 15 ). In the penetration area of the self-clinching bolt ( 5 ), the plate-type or strip-type material ( 1, 1′ ) is provided with a non-flanged material edge ( 101 ). Within the material edge ( 10 ), the self-clinching bolt ( 5 ) is press-fit with a peripheral area of the bold body ( 9 ) thereof, thus creating a force fit.
