A signal encoding method and device and a method for encoding a joint feedback signal are provided. The signal encoding method includes the following steps. When two carriers are configured with multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO), Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request-Acknowledgement (HARQ-ACK) signals of the two carriers are combined into a joint feedback signal. The joint feedback signal is mapped into a codeword according to a predetermined mapping relationship between signals and codewords. Therefore, through the method for combining and encoding feedback signals of two carriers for transmission on a code channel in a dual cell (DC)-MIMO mode, bit error ratio (BER) and detection error cost are decreased, power overhead is saved, and a cubic metric (CM) value of the system is not affected, thereby enhancing the performance of the system.

The beneficial effect of the present invention is: by feeding back the PCI information, the terminal realizes the maximization of a block length supported by an existing channel condition after the uplink MIMO is introduced, so as to improve an uplink transmission rate.

A mobile station receiving a signal from a base station experiences time/frequency varying channel conditions. In order to get the maximum throughput from a base-station, it is necessary to adjust the modulation and coding schemes to the actual channel quality. To do so, mobile receivers are required to probe the radio channel condition and feedback a limited set of estimated channel state information parameters such as CQI, RI, and PMI. The invention uses modulation-specific mutual information as a basic metric for CQI-PMI-RI computation to yield high bandwidth efficiency under both flat fading and interference conditions as well as time and frequency selective fading and interference conditions, at reasonable complexity.

A system is provided for high speed optical fiber data transmission by generating artificial wavefronts along multiple paths exhibiting spatial mutual orthogonality. Multiple independent signal streams are “structured” over a group of different propagation paths that are coherently organized by wavefront multiplexing and de-multiplexing techniques. Therefore, signal streams with enhanced throughput and reliability may be fully recovered at destinations via embedded diagnostic signals and optimization loops. Multiple optical channels are matched with multiple orthogonal wavefronts created by a signal pre-processor. A receiving end signal post-processor dynamically aligns propagation paths via diagnostic signals and orthogonality of the propagation wavefronts electronically. The multiple optical channels are coherently bonded into a single virtual channel, thereby increasing data bandwidth while reducing interference and unwanted multi-path effects. The wavefront multiplexing and de-multiplexing functions may be performed in a dedicated signal processor or may reside in a general-purpose microprocessor located in the user terminal.

A wireless communication system uses multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antennas for both transmitting and receiving ends. Pilot Scheme for a MIMO Communication System

The present invention employs a pilot scheme for frequency division multiple access (FDM) communication systems, such as single carrier FDM communication systems. A given transmit time interval will include numerous traffic symbols and two or more short pilot symbols, which are spaced apart from one another by at least one traffic symbol and will have a Fourier transform length that is less than the Fourier transform length of any given traffic symbol. Multiple transmitters will generate pilot information and modulate the pilot information onto sub-carriers of the short pilot symbols in an orthogonal manner. Each transmitter may use different sub-carriers within the time and frequency domain, which is encompassed by the short pilot symbols within the transmit time interval. Alternatively, each transmitter may uniquely encode the pilot information using a unique code division multiplexed code and modulate the encoded pilot information onto common sub-carriers of the short pilot symbols.

An active antenna system and algorithm is described that provides for improved performance from LTE communication systems operating in Category 1 mode, where one antenna is used. For the LTE SISO case (category 1), a modal antenna capable of generating multiple radiation patterns will provide improved throughput due to improved resistance to fading. Modal (Null Steering) antenna technology is implemented in a multi-antenna system to provide for single and multiple antenna operation wherein one or more antennas have two or more radiation modes.
