An ad in a movie can be a static ad having a position in the movie that cannot be moved, or a dynamic ad having a position in the movie that can be changed. When a viewer of the movie wishes to skip a portion of the movie containing the ad, the playback system determines whether the ad is static or dynamic. If the ad is static, then only the portion of the movie preceding the static ad can be skipped, that is, the ad is unskippable; this technique is referred to as bounceback since the end of the skip bounces back to the start of the static ad. If the ad is dynamic, then the ad is moved to after the end of the skip; this technique is referred to as slipad since the ad slips to later in the movie. When a movie has multiple ads, some can be static and some can be dynamic.

The PED may supply selected content to the processing system. The processing system may detect a first signal in the received broadcast signal that indicates a commercial break period of predetermined duration is to begin, and a second signal in the received broadcast signal that indicates that the commercial break period is to end. The processing system may obtain the selected content from the PED and insert the obtained, selected content into the broadcast signal for seamless playback through the vehicle radio system during the commercial break period. 1. Methods and apparatus for monitoring locally inserted media are disclosed. A disclosed method includes detecting, at a media device at a media presentation location, a cue in media received at the media device; in response to the detection of the cue, receiving separately form the media an advertisement associated with a user of the media device; presenting, by the media device, the media at a first time and the advertisement at a second time indicated by the detected cue; responsive to presenting the advertisement at the second time, recording a log including first identifying information for the media and second identifying information for the advertisement; and transmitting the log to a data collection facility. 1. Methods and apparatus for inserting local content of interest in an all digital content delivery network. In one embodiment, the content delivery network comprises a cable television or satellite network, and an RF channel thereof is separated or isolated from an incoming multiplex of all-digital content transmission. The separated RF channel is demodulated to provide a multiplexed transport stream, and packets corresponding to one or more programs from the transport stream are replaced with packets obtained from local compression and encoding of analog programming such as e.g., personal, educational and government (PEG) programming. An ad in a movie can be a static ad having a position in the movie that cannot be moved, or a dynamic ad having a position in the movie that can be changed. When a viewer wishes to skip a portion of the movie containing the ad, the playback system determines whether the ad is static or dynamic. A method for use in connection with a first computing device and a second computing device , the method comprising:making a determination that the second computing device is scheduled to run a second digital video effect (DVE) in connection with a second video stream;responsive to making the determination that the second computing device is scheduled to run the second DVE in connection with the second video stream, selecting a first DVE, wherein selecting the first DVE comprises using mapping data that maps the second DVE to the first DVE, to select the first DVE; andcausing the first computing device to run the selected first DVE, wherein running the selected first DVE causes the first computing device to generate the second video stream by modifying a first video stream.2. The method of claim 1 , wherein making the determination that the second computing device is scheduled to run the second DVE in connection with the second video stream comprises receiving an indication that the second computing device is scheduled to run the second DVE in connection with the second video stream.3. A system and method for broadcasting to a plurality of client side devices over a network, such as the Internet, using visual layers for assembly in a media broadcast. In response to receiving input for simulating the media broadcast defined by content objects and arrangement of each layer in the simulation, transmitting the content objects for each of a plurality of the layers in a different live stream to each of the client side devices and transmitting design parameters defining the arrangement of the layers in the simulation to each of the client side devices. Each of the client side devices may be adapted to assemble the layers of a media broadcast according to the content objects and design parameters of the transmissions so that the content objects and design of the media broadcast assembled at each of the client side devices substantially matches that of the simulated media broadcast.
