The roles of the first and second device with respect to active and standby state are reversed after a switchover.

These first data units are subdivided into second data units and are transmitted to the destination network over the transport network. Each equal cost path is assigned a path ID created by concatenating an ordered set of link IDs which form the path through the network. Each of the link IDs on each of the paths is then renamed, for example by inverting either all of the high node IDs or low node IDs. A method may include determining if either a predefined time to sample data was reached or if an interrupt was received, and then sampling ports associated with the predefined time or interrupt, to collect data from remote sensors or equipment coupled to the ports, process the sampled data, store the processed data in memory, and evaluate the stored data against a set of rules. If no rules are violated, the sampling continues, and the processed data is packaged and transmitted to a server at a prescheduled time. Actions are taken if rules are violated.

A system and method for IP telephony are disclosed. The system includes an IP telephone (IPT) and a Service Gateway (SG). In the present disclosure, the WAP gateway requests, when receiving a page request from a user terminal, a page requested by the user terminal from a service provider; and when a page returned by the service provider satisfies a page redirection criterion, the WAP gateway performs a page redirection, and returns the page obtained after the redirection to the user terminal. The page redirection criterion is that the page contains redirection serial status codes indicating that a redirection is needed, or that the page contains an “onenterforward” mark. The present invention relates to communication networks and, more particularly, to information playback in communication networks. System and method for enabling Video Cassette Recording controls while information is being played to a user. A Media Gateway Controller indicates to a Media Server that the user could exercise Video Cassette Recording controls on the information while the information is being played to the user. The Media Server plays the information to the user and receives a Video Cassette Recording control command entered by the user. The Media Server performs an action on the information according to the Video Cassette Recording control command. The user is an Intelligent Network Application Part (INAP)/Customized Applications for Mobile networks Enhanced Logic (CAMEL) user.

In one embodiment, an apparatus comprises logic for optimizing return traffic paths using network address translation (NAT). The logic is operable to receive outbound data from a source node in a source network, and to replace a source address in a source address field in the outbound data with a first address from a first address pool associated with a first connection. The logic is operable to determine that return traffic on the first connection needs to be switched over to a second connection, where a second address pool is associated with the second connection. The logic is operable to generate a mapping that associates the first address with a second address from the second address pool and, based on the mapping, to replace the first address in the source address field in the outbound data with the second address. The logic is also operable to send the outbound data to the destination node over the second connection.

Methods and systems for facilitating fault tolerance in a non-hot-standby configuration of a network muting system are provided. According to one embodiment, a failover method is provided. One or more processing engines of a network routing system are configured to function as active processing engines, each of which having one or more software contexts. A control blade is contoured to monitor the active processing engines. One or more of the processing engines are identified to function as non-hot-standby processing engines, each of which having no pre-created software contexts corresponding, to the software contexts of the active processing engines. The control blade monitors the active processing engines. Responsive to detecting a fault associated with an active processing engine the active processing engine is dynamically replaced with a non-hot-standby processing engine by creating one or more replacement software contexts within the non-hot-standby processing engine corresponding to those of the active processing engine.

An additional session is established for voice over internet protocol communication between a pair of endpoints in a network, wherein a current session is already established between the endpoints and is currently used for data packet communication between endpoints. Qualities of each of the sessions for voice over internet protocol communication are assessed and compared, and the endpoints signaled to select the session having the higher assessed quality as a current session for further data packet communication between the endpoints, and to remove the lower quality session from use as a session for the further data packet communication between the endpoints, or to use the lower quality session as a secondary session for data communication between the endpoints. More particularly, the assessed qualities of each of the current and additional sessions meet a basic requirement defined to provide voice over internet protocol data packet communication between the endpoints.

The IP packet fragments comprise a head fragment and one or more trailing fragments, and are associated with a first IP packet. As the fragments are received, a controller at the PGW classifies the fragments.
