Each bridge associates, during a guard time, the port through which a frame is first received with a source MAC address until a unicast reply frame confirms the matching two-way path between the source and destination addresses. Each bridge forwards the received broadcast frames through the rest of the ports, except those involving prohibited (down-up) turns, and deviates (or optionally returns) the unicast frames with an unknown or aged destination address through the spanning tree. The protocol can operate with encapsulation in the border bridges or without encapsulation, using in this case the replacement of universal MAC addresses in the border bridges with local MAC addresses. The establishment and control of paths can optionally be performed proactively by the border bridges, especially the bridges connected to servers.

The calculation cost can be reduced because analysis engine processes events incrementally or decrementally.

The method includes: on an OLT in a passive optical network, a working uplink port and a protection uplink port are set for a time division multiplex service and a protection group is created for the working uplink port and the protection uplink port; when a service flow protection for the time division multiplex service is triggered, the time division multiplex service flow is switched from the working uplink port to the protection uplink port, therefore realizing the protection for the time division multiplex service flow. The present application provides an uplink channel protection mechanism for important services in an access system, such as the time division multiplex service, which needs no protection switching protocol, and makes the service recovery time stand within 50 ms, thereby realizing fast and nondestructive recovery of the time division multiplex service.

Techniques are provided herein for receiving synchronization messages at a second network device that is in a hot standby configuration from a first network device that is maintaining Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) state machines for one or more neighbor devices. The synchronization messages are configured to indicate an IPv6 state for each state machine maintained in the first network device. An IPv6 state for corresponding state machines is updated in the second network device based on the synchronization messages such that the IPv6 states in the second network device allows the second network device to actively process IPv6 traffic for the one or more neighbor devices upon traffic switchover from the first network device to the second network device without restarting the corresponding IPv6 state machine associated with each of the one or more neighbor devices in the second network device. The roles of the first and second device with respect to active and standby state are reversed after a switchover.

Datacenter configuration needs to be managed. A configuration engine (CE) manages configuration data of clusters and/or datacenters. The CE allows users to check out, edit, and check in configuration components. Versioned interfaces are placed between configuration components through data contracts. The CE supports the expression of constraints that ensure global consistency across configuration components and versions, isolates changes in the datacenter from structural changes in configuration components, and enables partial configuration branching to allow for active snapshots that enable configuration rollback. The CE ensures that types are consistent and constraints are satisfied at check-in time to eliminate unsound or inconsistent configuration in the first place. When the active configuration in the datacenter changes, multiple versions of configuration may be simultaneously deployed for a window of time. The managed set of configuration is permitted to have multiple active versions during these transitional windows to reflect the reality in the datacenter.

A core network is divided into individually managed domains, where each of the domains comprises multiprotocol label switching for packets. A management system is coupled to each of the domains. Network elements in each of the domains are restricted from directly transferring packets to network elements in another one of domains. Each of the domains has a domain firewall at an edge of the domains, and the domain firewall restricts packets from being received from other domains. To transfer packets from one domain to another domain, the management system receives the packets from one domain and transfers the packets to the other domain after authentication.
