In some embodiments, the charging magnetic field produced in an air gap within an inductive charger for a hearing aid or other miniature device is shaped by lateral protrusions, which draw the magnetic field away from a body of a device battery situated behind a receiver inductor. Shaping the magnetic field allows reducing the magnetic field flux intercepted by the battery (rater than the receiver inductor), reducing the inductive heating of the battery. A charging element produces a high-frequency, ~120kHz, magnetic field inside the gap in which the hearing aid or other device is inserted to charge its battery. A loosely-coupled magnetic transformer circuit forms a resonant tank circuit that is excited, by a feedback control circuit, at its resonant frequency to ensure power transfer across the large gap regardless of the dimensional variations of the gap and the relative position of the hearing aid in the gap.

The codec comprises a decoder adapted to generate a decoded output signal based on an input quantization index and an encoder for generating an output quantization index based on an input signal, said encoder comprising said decoder and a predictor receiving an excitation signal derived from said decoder output signal and outputting a prediction signal. The output quantization index is determined by repeated decoding of the quantization indices in order to minimize the error between the input signal and the prediction signal, and the predictor uses a recursive autocorrelation estimate for the error minimization. The invention further provides a method of encoding an audio signal.

A second microphone is situated away from the first microphone. A radio frequency (RF) transmitter and receiver circuit is electrically connected to the second microphone and to the speaker. An antenna is connected to the RF transmitter and receiver circuit. The user's voice is detected by the second microphone and transmitted by the RF transmitter and receiver circuit, through the antenna, to an external electronic device. Signals from the external electronic device are received by the antenna and processed by the RF transmitter and receiver circuit, and are emitted as sound through the speaker for the user to hear.

A device includes: a housing having an operational position with respect to a user of the device; and an antenna structure coupled to the housing and having a conducting element, wherein the antenna structure is configured to emit an electromagnetic field so that the electromagnetic field propagates in a direction having a major directional vector that corresponds with a surface of a user using the device when the housing is at the operative position. 1. An antenna device configured to be used at or in proximity to a user , the antenna device comprising:an antenna structure having a conducting element, wherein the antenna structure is configured so that a current is induced in at least the conducting element during operation, the conducting element extending over a length of between 1/16 of a wavelength and a full wavelength in a direction substantially orthogonal to a surface of the user, when the antenna device is provided in an intended operational position.2. The antenna device according to claim 1 , wherein the antenna structure is configured to emit an electromagnetic field that (1) has an electric field polarized substantially orthogonal to the surface of the user claim 1 , and (2) propagates primarily in a direction along the surface of the user.3. A wirelessly powered audio device comprising:an audio output element adapted to generate sounds audible to a user;a device resonator structure adapted to wirelessly receive energy via oscillating magnetic fields, the device resonator configured to reduce the interaction of the magnetic fields with the audio output element; anda power demand monitor adapted to monitor the power demands of the audio device and the power received via the device resonator structure, the power demand monitor further configured to cause the audio output element to generate an audible signal when the power demands of the audio device exceed the power delivered by the device resonator.2. The audio device of claim 1 , wherein the device resonator structure is positioned near the audio output element such that the audio output device performance is minimally affected by the presence of the device resonator.3. An embodiment of the present invention determines the transmission loss for sound applied to the recipient by the hearing device. Separate gains are then determined for compensating for the determined transmission loss and the measured hearing loss of the recipient.
