The acoustical corrections allow to convert a measured acoustic pressure within the ear-canal of a user to an equivalent acoustic pressure at the ear-drum and/or in free-field. The methods and devices also allow to distinguish noises originating from the user from noises of the environment in the ear occluded by an earplug. Such a distinction is done using two microphones to simultaneously measure the acoustic pressure within the ear-canal and outside the ear-canal. The device may be used to determine a cumulative sound pressure level dosage for which a user being exposed to surrounding sounds over a predetermined period of time.

A circuit for testing a buzzer includes a microphone, an amplifier circuit, a microprocessor circuit, and a display circuit. The amplifier circuit is configured to amplify an analog signal from the microphone to an amplified signal. The microprocessor circuit determines whether a loudness and a frequency of the amplified signal are within proper ranges. The buzzer is qualified if the loudness and frequency of the amplified signal are within the proper ranges. The display unit displays the loudness, the frequency, and a test result. 1. A circuit for testing a buzzer , comprising:a microphone configured to generate an analog signal corresponding to a sound from the buzzer, by playing an audio signal corresponding to a file;an amplifier circuit configured to amplify the analog signal from the microphone, and output an amplified signal;a microprocessor circuit performing an analog to digital (A/D) conversion operation on the amplified signal, to obtain a first loudness of the amplified signal, and sampling the amplified signal to obtain a first frequency of the amplified signal; the microprocessor unit circuit determining whether the first loudness is within a first predetermined range, and determining whether the first frequency is within a second predetermined range; anda display unit configured to display the first loudness, the first frequency, and a test result of the buzzer.2. The circuit of claim 1 , wherein the microprocessor circuit further determines whether the amplified signal has a high frequency.3. Devices connected with a computer system are interrogated to detect whether they are configured and functioning. In an audio device implementation, a known audio sample is output to a loudspeaker. If the loudspeaker is properly configured and functional, an attached microphone will capture the sound corresponding to the audio sample generated by the loudspeaker. If sound corresponding to the audio sample is detected, an indication is provided to the user that the microphone and loudspeaker are operational. If no sound corresponding to the audio sample is detected, an indication is provided to the user that the loudspeaker is not enabled and additional configuration is required. 1. A method for detection of configuration of a device connected with a computer system , the method comprising:transmitting a sample signal for output via an output device connected with the computer system;capturing a captured signal via an input device connected with the computer system; andcomparing the sample signal to the captured signal to determine whether the captured signal substantially corresponds to the sample signal thus indicating whether the output device, the input device, or both are functional.2. The method of further comprising outputting the sample signal via the output device.3. Systems, devices and methods for communication include an ear canal microphone configured for placement in the ear canal to detect high frequency sound localization cues. An external microphone positioned away from the ear canal can detect low frequency sound, such that feedback can be substantially reduced. The canal microphone and the external microphone are coupled to a transducer, such that the user perceives sound from the external microphone and the canal microphone with high frequency localization cues and decreased feedback. Wireless circuitry can be configured to connect to many devices with a wireless protocol, such that the user can receive and transmit audio signals. A bone conduction sensor can detect near-end speech of the user for transmission with the wireless circuitry in noisy environment. Noise cancellation of background sounds near the user can improve the user's hearing of desired sounds.
