Acknowledgment bundling has been defined for Long Term Evolution (LTE) Time Division Duplex (TDD) systems due to asymmetric DL/UL partitioning. In the case of Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) with a limited uplink (UL) duty cycle, there may be asymmetry associated with a downlink transmission and an associated uplink acknowledgment. For example, there may be a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) and a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) hybrid automatic repeat request acknowledgment (HARQ-ACK) asymmetry. Interference between downlink and uplink transmissions may be a factor contributing to the limited UL duty cycle in an FDD system. For an FDD system having a limited mobile transmission duty cycle, both DL and UL performance may be significantly degraded without proper mitigation techniques. According to certain embodiments of the present disclosure, various HARQ and scheduling techniques may be utilized for minimizing loss due to the limited UL duty cycle.

If network A is not providing inactive superframes, then the network B hub determines whether network A is willing to coexist using active superframe interleaving on the channel. If so, the network B hub sends an interleave request message to the network A hub, which may accept the message and send back an interleave response message. The network A hub then offers new inactive superframes, and the network B hub adapts the transmissions and receptions of network B to fit within these inactive superframes.

The paging indicator indicates that additional information such as a full paging messages, other control plane data or other user plane data is expected to be transmitted at a specific time instant (e.g., subframe) on the associated high speed channel. A set of parameters can be transmitted on common channels that specify a set of associated subframes in a high speed channel. Mobile devices can analyze the set of parameters to determine the associated subframes and receive the subframes in accordance with a schedule.

In one embodiment, the communications link is a downlink between the base station and the user device established via a downlink channel having a full channel bandwidth including a number of sub-carrier frequencies. The base station determines whether a power boost is needed for a downlink to the user device. If so, the base station uses a subset of the sub-carrier frequencies from the full channel bandwidth as a reduced bandwidth channel, or sub-channel, for the downlink to the user device such that signal power is concentrated on the sub-carrier frequencies of the reduced channel bandwidth rather than spread across the sub-carrier frequencies of the full channel bandwidth.
