A heat transfer chamber encloses both operating chamber and heat sink chamber. A wicking material fills a portion of the transfer chamber to be in thermal connection with both operating chamber and heat sink chamber. The heat sink chamber contains a heat sink material. A heat transfer medium is contained in the heat transfer chamber which is vaporized by heat from the operating chamber, then condensed by the heat sink medium to be absorbed into the wicking member and transported through the wicking member by capillary action back to the operating chamber for revaporization. Heat transfer chamber is isolated from operating chamber.

Durch den porösen Körper (20) kann ein Gasvolumenstrom strömen. Gas kann an der Innenseite (21) in den porösen Körper (20) eintreten und an der Außenseite (22) austreten oder umgekehrt. Um das Eindringen von Wasser bzw. anderen wässrigen Flüssigkeiten in den Innenraum des Gehäuses (10) zu vermeiden, weist der poröse Körper (20) in zumindest einem Bereich (31) eine hydrophobe Oberfläche (B) auf.

Printed circuit packaging for high vibration and temperature environments

A method for manufacturing a reusable package for printed circuits boards in oil tools which is protected from high vibration and high temperature environments is comprised of the steps of vacuum forming a thin layer of mold release film over the printed circuit board. The printed circuit board together with its intimately formed mold release film is then potted in a conventional manner within a protective package filled with a resilient curable foam. The foam is poured in an uncured state around the components of the printed circuit board and cured in place. After the potting material is cured the printed circuit board is removed from the resilient potting material and the mold release layer is stripped from the printed circuit board. Thereafter the printed circuit board is reassembled in the conformally molded resilient potting and additional foam may be added to the printed circuit board and the electronic packaging to gently urge the printed circuit board into intimate conformal contact with the conformally mated potting. The electronic package is then completed or enclosed in a conventional manner with the printed circuit board snugly retained within the conformally molded potting.

Fire resistant and water resistant enclosure for operable computer digital data storage device

A fire resistant and water resistant enclosure for an operable computer digital data storage device is provided. The enclosure has walls made of gypsum or concrete and, in one embodiment, has two small ventilation openings which remain open during normal operation of the digital data storage device and during the presence of fire. This embodiment has no moving parts. In the presence of fire, air and superheated steam from inside the enclosure expand and flow outwardly through the ventilation passageways. As those gases flow outwardly, they simultaneously block or prevent the transfer of heat from the exterior fire inwardly through those passageways. A water resistant pouch or coating surrounding the storage device prevents damage from flood, water, steam generated by the insulation or smoke from passing through said passageways and damaging the storage device. Another embodiment is provided utilizing one or more movable hatches which, in the presence of fire, cannot completely close, allowing superheated steam to escape from the enclosure yet during normal operation allow for better ventilation and cooling. A method is also provided for protecting the data storage device wherein the walls of the enclosure are supersaturated with water. The walls are coated with a vapor barrier such as plastic skin, plastic container or wax to prevent evaporation of water. In the presence of fire, the vapor barrier melts and the excess water stored in the walls absorbs latent heat of vaporization and extends the amount of time over which the enclosure is able to protect the storage device from damage.

Preferably the shelter includes a solar screen means positioned exterior of said box-like structure for reflecting solar radiation away from said box-like structure, said solar screen means defining with said box-like structure air space means for enabling the circulation therethrough of ambient air for cooling the exterior of said box-like structure.

Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein brand- und aufprallgeschütztes Gehäuse (1 ) zur Aufnahme von zumindest einer Wärme erzeugenden Komponente (4), insbesondere einer elektronischen Komponente, mit einem ersten Gehäuseelement (21 ), insbesondere ein Bodenelement, und zumindest einem zweiten Gehäuseelement (22), insbesondere ein Deckelelement, wobei das erste Gehäuseelement (21 ) und das zumindest eine zweite Gehäuseelement (22) in einem zusammengefügten Zustand ein geschlossenes Außengehäuse (2) bilden, wobei an der der Wärme erzeugenden Komponente (4) zugewandten Seite des ersten Gehäuseelementes (21 ) und/oder des zumindest einen zweiten Gehäuseelementes (22) ein Fluidbehälter (5) mit einem Fluid (6) angeordnet ist, und wobei eine Entleerungseinrichtung (9) zum Entleeren des Fluidbehälters (5) in das Innere des brand- und aufprallgeschützten Gehäuses (1 ) vorgesehen ist. A thermally insulated cabinet is provided for protecting electronic data storage devices from damage by accidental and environmental conditions and from intentional acts. This cabinet provides an interior envelope which contains a data storage device surrounded by multiple layers of thermal insulation. The thermal insulation layers allow electrical power, data and device control cabling to access the device, thus permitting real time operation of the device while the device is contained within the inner envelope. The inner envelope has two vertically separated ends: a lower end and an upper end. The data storage device is affixed to the inner envelope to permit heated air to rise from the lower end of the inner envelope away from the location of the device. The inner chamber is dimensioned to permit the heat generated by operation of the data storage device to dissipate and to maintain stable thermal conditions within the inner envelope during normal use. A tortuous path exists through thermal insulation to accommodate various electrical power, data and control cables that must be connected to the device to permit to the data storage device to function. In one embodiment, a serpentine path is provided for the cables. The serpentine path substantially increases the thermal energy that can by released by the control wires into the thermal insulators and reduces the risk that these wires will conduct sufficient thermal energy from the outside of the cabinet to damage the data storage device.

The outer protective cover comprises a thermal energy conduction element 112, which may be a layer of tiles, for transferring thermal energy through at least part of the cover. The inner assembly comprises a thermal energy transfer device 130 to transfer thermal energy to and/or from the thermal energy conduction element. The thermal conduction element comprises a graphite-like or pyrolytic graphite-like material, which may include graphene, pyrolytic graphite, pyrolytic carbon, pyrolytic hexagonal boron nitride. The thermal energy transfer device may include a thermal energy transfer fluid, such as a nanofluid comprising at least one of ZnO, hexagonal boron nitride, graphene or diamond nanoparticles. The thermal energy transfer fluid may be located in semi-circular pipes 134. The inner assembly may include a support structure 150 comprising an aerogel 154. The device may comprise a thermoelectric generator.
