The contact socket has an array of contact pins mounted in a grid of bores, the pins projecting from the bores on the side facing the PCB to which they are surface mounted. The free end of each bore is intended for guiding the dome shaped terminal contacts on IC. Between the end of a contact pin and a terminal contact there is a space bridged by a spring to establish electrical contact. The IC is attached to the socket by screw retainers around the periphery and no axially acting frictional forces have to be overcome for establishing contact. The holding down device can also be formed as a rectangular pressure spring with a fastening screw at each corner. The spring force can be adjusted depending on how far the fastening screws are tightened.

Base modules may be arranged side-by-side, having a backplane in a bank. Another embodiment may include having plurality of banks. The network ring topology used by the base modules is normally opened by a ring supervisor at the ring supervisor location. Upon failure of the network, the ring supervisor reconnects the ring to provide an alternative transmission path around the failure point.

An interposer and method of providing spatial and arrangement transformation are described. An electronic system has an electronic package, a motherboard and an interposer between the package and the motherboard. The interposer has signal and ground contacts on opposing surfaces that are respectively connected.
