The temperature threshold includes a first temperature threshold, corresponding to a withstand temperature of the switching element, and a second temperature threshold, which is higher than the first temperature threshold. A fixed front bearing plate or end head has a cup-shaped housing piloted thereon surrounding the cylinder and providing a rear bearing mounting for the rotor. The front plate has an inlet port supplying the compression cavities between the rotor and cylinder. The cylinder has an outlet adjacent the tangency seal line of contact between the rotor and cylinder which discharges to a chamber between the housing and cylinder that is surrounded by porous fibrous strips effective to separate lubricant entrained in the compressed refrigerant. The refrigerant is discharged to an outlet port in the front bearing plate and the separated lubricant collects in the bottom of the housing and is circulated back to the bearings and vane slots of the rotor.

The compressor is of the vane, screw, worm, centrifugal or turbine types. A pump 22 or the pressure in the tank 17 forces the liquid collected in the tank 17 through a cooler 20 and the regulator 24 to the nozzle 25. During full or partial unloading of the compressor a valve 7 is moved to throttle or stop the flow of gas entering the compressor through an intake opening 6. The resulting reduction in the delivery pressure causes a check-valve 11 to close. In order to reduce the power consumption during unloading the supply of liquid to the nozzle 25 is reduced by the regulator 24, a piston 37 thereof being movable by the valve 7 to a position restricting the flow area through the regulator. Gas in the tank 17 flows through a separator 27, a line 28 and a valve 29 to a point of use. The nozzle 25 may be located in a slide valve (34), Fig. 5 (not shown) movable by fluid-pressure to change the outlet flow area of the compressor.

Compression effected in compressor is close to isothermal compression. During compression, gas is cooled by mist of cooling water. Water is circulating in closed circulating loop and is subjected to repeated cycles of preparation. Water is delivered to compressor in such amount and such low temperature that temperature of gas at outlet is below or equal to it at inlet. Plant may be provided with screw compressor. Air saturated with water is fed as compressible gas. Larger part of air is injected into compression part of compressor through its housing. Compressor plant is provided with electrical control system. The sucked gas is prevented from being heated by a heat loss of the electric motor (7) or the oil thereby increasing the performance of the compressor (A) and a rise in cost for separating the oil from the compressed gas can be prevented.

COMPACT OIL SEPARATOR FOR ROTARY COMPRESSOR Abstract: Separation of lubricating oil, entrained in the discharge gas produced by a rotary vane compressor, is achieved in a relatively small space by initially passing the oil-laden discharge gas through a first closed chamber, containing an oil separating element, to form a stream of gas having some of its oil removed and having a desired velocity uniformly distribed across the stream's cross section. The gas stream is then circulated within a second and larger closed chamber where the remaining oil is separated out by gravity settling and impingement on the second chamber's walls. The separated oil collects in a reservoir at the bottom of the second chamber to form an oil pool (47). The oil-free discharge gas exits through an outlet (64) in the second chamber (58). Oil is drawn off, and returned to the oil distribution system of the compressor, from a quiet portion of the oil pool which is protected from any turbulence of the gas stream by a shield (55) within the second chamber that extends into the oil pool and prevents the re-entrainment of discharge gas, as gas bubbles, into the protected quiet portion of the pool. The shield also serves to prevent the protected oil from being re-entrained into the discharge gas.

The position of a slide valve in a screw compressor in a refrigeration system is controlled using a gaseous medium sourced from the higher pressure of two or more sources of such fluid. Preferred sources are refrigerant gas in a closed compression pocket in the working chamber of the compressor and refrigerant gas in the discharge passage downstream of the compressor's discharge port. The multiple sources of such gas are connected to a solenoid valve which, when open, permits gas to act on the piston which controls the position of the slide valve. Due to a check valve arrangement, it is always the one of the sources of gas which is at higher pressure that acts on the slide valve actuating piston. The adverse affects of refrigerant gas out-gassing and gas bubble collapse associated with use of hydraulic fluid rather than a gaseous medium to modulate compressor capacity are avoided while advantageous use is made of compressor overcompression in the control of slide valve position.

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A scroll-type refrigerant compressor unit is assembled by inserting parts into a compressor housing in the predetermined order and by finally securing a front end plate onto the compressor housing by bolts, whereby the production of the compressor unit is simplified. A drive shaft is supported by a single radial bearing, and a disk rotor having a drive pin to effect the orbital motion of the orbiting scroll member is fixedly mounted on the inner end of the drive shaft and is supported on the front end plate by a thrust bearing. Thus, the drive shaft and, therefore, the compressor unit are made in a reduced length and the deflection and vibration of the drive shaft are securely prevented. A lubricating system is provided to lubricate shaft seal assembly on the drive shaft wherein the oil in the compressor housing is directed to the shaft seal cavity and returns to the interior of the compressor housing after lubricat-ing the radial and thrust bearings and other parts. A mechanism for automatically reducing the compressed fluid amount at an increased high speed operation of the compressor unit is proposed.

Oil and water carried by gas compressed in the compressor 1 is collected in a combined oil separator and pressure vessel 2 having a service header 6. Gas pressure in the vessel 2 forces oil through conduit 7, a cooler 10 and a conduit 11 into the compressor 1, a temperature responsive device 8 being provided to cause some of the oil to by-pass the cooler 10 when the oil is at a low temperature. The oil separator 14 may be disposed to receive oil from the vessel 2 through a conduit 13 and deliver to the conduit 7 or vice versa, or it may both receive oil directly from and deliver oil directly to the vessel 2. A pump 16 may be disposed on the inlet or outlet side of the separator 14 to increase the pressure difference thereacross. The water separator 14 is shown in Fig. 2 and comprises a hollow body 14', 14" which supports a shaft 19 and a rotary unit 22 rotatable on bearings 26, 27 carried by the shaft 19. Oil and water mixture to be separated flows into the rotary unit 22 through passages 20, 21 in the shaft, an annular space 23, and holes 24 in the hub 22' of the unit 22. A lubricating system for a scroll type compressor is described. The compressor unit includes a housing having a front end plate and a cup shaped casing. A rotation preventing mechanism for an orbiting scroll is disposed between the inner end surface of the front end plate and a circular end plate of the orbiting scroll. A fluid inlet port is formed on the cup shaped casing and placed for opposing the rotation preventing mechanism. The part of fixed ring of rotation preventing mechanism which is opposited to the fluid inlet port has a cut portion. An oil passageway is formed through the front end plate with one end opening at the cut portion of fixed ring. The other end of oil passage way opens to a shaft seal cavity formed on the front end plate. Therefore, a shaft seal assembly within the shaft seal cavity is lubricated and cooled by lubricating oil and suction gas flowing through the oil passageway. Further passageways convey lubricant from the shaft seal cavity to the bearing elements of the compressor and finally to the suction chamber of the compressor.

L'invention concerne un système de lubrification pour compresseur à vis. L'ensemble compresseur à vis 10 comprend une partie 16 formant boîtier d'un moteur 18, une partie compresseur 14 et un séparateur d'huile 30 disposé en aval de l'orifice 28 de refoulement du compreseur. La partie formant boîtier est traversée par le gaz d'aspiration se dirigeant vers la chambre de travail 22 de façon que ce gaz refroidisse le moteur 18. La partie 16 forme également un échangeur de chaleur 50 parcouru intérieurement par l'huile revenant du carter 34 disposé au-dessous du séparateur 30. La pression de refoulement régnant dans le séparateur 30 renvoie l'huile dans l'échangeur de chaleur avant que cette huile atteigne les surfaces de paliers 72 à lubrifier du compresseur. Tischer Abstract A body located downstream of the compressor discharge port in an oil-injected screw compressor assembly includes a contoured surface for directing the flow of the gas-oil mixture discharged from the com-pressor. The body is movable in the compressor assembly between a first position in which the flow of the mixture out of the discharge port is unimpeded and a second position in which the backflow of gas from downstream of the discharge port back into and through the working chamber of the compressor is prevented. In the first position the body facilitates the separation of oil from the discharged compressed gas while in the second position the reverse direction rotation of the screw rotors in the compressor working chamber is prevented. The body is positionable to the first position under the impetus of the mixture discharged from the compressor and is positionable to the second posi-tion under the impetus of the initial backflow of gas from downstream of the compressor, back to the compressor, which occurs upon compressor shutdown.
