A method and apparatus for measuring stem nut wear in a valve having a threaded valve stem that is positioned to engage the threads of a stem nut. In a preferred embodiment, a tool is mounted on the stem nut, wherein the tool rotates when the stem nut rotates. The tool indicates a measurement of stem nut rotation. An indicator indicates stem movement. The stem nut is rotated and the amount of percent wear is observed. Rotation continues until the stem begins to move. The tool provides a reading when the stem begins to move that indicates an amount of stem nut wear.

An apparatus and method are disclosed for controlling the thickness of a flowing, laminar fluid film. The film flow may be gravity-induced or the result of an alternative force. The fluid is deposited on an upper end of a flow surface where a relatively thick layer of the film forms. The film flows over a fluid dispersal region where the surface area is rapidly expanding, which results in rapid thinning of the film thickness. The fluid then flows over an active region where the surface area is designed to control the fluid film thickness. For example, in some applications, it may be desirable to maintain an approximately constant film thickness as the fluid flows over the active region of the surface. The geometry of the flow surface is used to obtain the desired control over the fluid film thickness. The flow surface is the outer surface of a solid with a closed upper end and a lower end that may be open or closed. An open lower end allows for injection of a heated material, which may be used to heat the solid surface. This process may be used to heat the fluid flow surface so that evaporation of the flowing fluid results. A falling film evaporator is one application of the disclosed invention. The method includes determining an estimated hydraulic line pressure of the hydraulic control system based upon an input flow and an output flow of hydraulic fluid. The input flow and output flow are regulated with a pressure control device, which is energizable on operator demand. A pressure detection device is fluidly connected to the pressure control device to detect the presence of hydraulic pressure. An override module is applied to the estimated hydraulic line pressure to determine a corrected hydraulic line pressure. The override module sets the corrected hydraulic line pressure to predetermined values based on the operating state indicated by the pressure detection device. The override module corrects for an over-estimation of hydraulic line pressure in operating conditions such as low environmental temperatures.

Devices for conveying fuel are known having a conveying assembly and a pump holder holding the conveying assembly which has a receptacle for the conveying assembly and a holder connected to the receptacle via three damping elements. The damping elements damp the structure-born noise transmission from the conveying assembly to the adjacent components. The damping elements each have a cantilever section which projects starting from the receptacle into the region of the holder and runs in the radial direction and circumferential direction. The cantilever sections are designed as elastic spring arms, the axial deflection thereof in respect of a pump axis being able to exceed a maximum allowable value by means of external acceleration forces. The mechanical stresses occurring in the spring arms can lead to damage to the spring arms. In the device according to the invention, the damping elements have a strongly progressive spring characteristic curve in respect of an axial deflection such that a progressively increasing spring force in the damping element occurs with increasing spring travel of the pump holder. The axial deflection of the pump holder is consequently reduced over that of the prior art. According to the invention, an elastic spring section ( 15 ) connects on the cantilever section ( 12 ) which runs with the longitudinal extension thereof in the axial direction and in the circumferential direction in respect of a pump axis ( 2.1 ) and is connected to the holder ( 11 ).
