Plates of this kind are employed, for example, as passage-containing plates in hydraulic blocks for ABS/ASR/VDC systems, the depressions or apertures serving as passages or holes and the coating being a seal. In this invention the depressions or apertures are formed in an uncoated plate and then the plate is coated. As a result, the life of the machining tools is extended, the machining tolerances become smaller and the rate of machining can be increased.

There is provided an inflatable cushion filling machine (100) for forming inflated packaging cushions (10) from a roll (122) of tubular thermoplastic material. The machine includes a film supply section (120) and a cushion forming section (130). The cushion forming section includes means for delivering the tubular material through the cushion forming section; means (137a) for applying tension to the web of tubular material while air is being introduced into the tubular material. Means are provided for introducing air into the area between the tension means to fill the cushion. When filled, a sealing band (150), displaced transversely across the inflated tubular thermoplastic material, seals the lower end to form the top of one cushion and the bottom of the next cushion. Prior to forming the cushion, the walls of the tubular material separate from each other by the residual air from the filling operation of the previous cushion. Disclosed is a machine comprising a housing, means disposed inside (3) the tubular film (1) to separate the walls thereof, means (8) guiding the tubular film, and an inflating sealing device (5, 6, 7, 12). Said inflating sealing device is provided with at least one hollow needle (5) for inflating and means (2, 2a, 2b) preventing air from escaping towards said reel, i.e. upstream. Said means (2) preventing air from escaping are arranged between the means disposed inside (3) said film and the reel. The inflating sealing device (5, 6, 7, 12) is arranged after the means disposed inside (3) said film and before the guiding means (8) of said film such that the tubular film (1) is pulled through the inflating sealing device. The hollow needle (5) of the inflating sealing device is fixed to a first lever arm (12) which is disposed on one side of said film and is controlled by a first actuator (13). Two heating elements (6) are positioned upstream and downstream from the needle and are fixed to a second lever arm (10) which is disposed on the other side of said film and is controlled by a second actuator (11). The means preventing the air fed into the tubular film from escaping towards said reel, i.e. upstream, comprise an elongate element (2b) which extends in a transversal direction relative to the film (1) and is fixed to said first lever arm (12) such that said elongate element (2b) is kept away from the film during movement thereof and is inserted into a slot (2a) arranged in a plate (2) of the machine housing and pushes said film into the slot, creating a narrow fold thereon.

Both perimeters of the desired apertured element are first cut in one sheet of the strip without cutting the other sheet. A second shape, within the inner perimeter of the apertured shape, is cut into the second sheet without cutting into the first sheet, either before or after the cuts in the opposite side. This leaves material within the apertured shape that is held in place by a border due to the adhesive backing. After first sheet material outside the apertured shape is separated from the second sheet, a mechanism is used to overcome the adhesive force at the border and remove the inner cuts simultaneously. Thus only the desired apertured elements are left on the second sheet to be removed for use either at that time or thereafter.

A system for forming a waterproof seam between to sewn materials. The seam is formed using an adhesive coated thread. A thin strip of adhesive is placed between the two materials at the seam line. As the coated thread is sewn into the seam heat and pressure are simultaneously applied, melting the adhesive coating thereby filling the needle punctures. The melted adhesive coating will also flow into the areas between the needles punctures and between the materials. The heat and pressure applied to the coated thread will also melt the adhesive strip, causing additional adhesive to flow into the needle punctures and the areas between needle punctures.

The card product produced by this method is distinguished in that the card has a width and length which correspond exactly to the width and length of the cut-out.

A reduced-pressure, wound closure system is presented that generates a closing force on a surface wound and optionally provides reduced pressure to a body cavity or tissue site. The sealed contracting member, when placed under reduced pressure, generates the closing force. Method of making shoulder/nozzles with film barrier liners

The method comprises an automated technique for making and inserting flexible laminate film barrier liners into the shoulder/nozzles of product tube packaging. The shoulder/nozzles are made and oriented with the shoulder opening to be facing the laminate film. The film is fed to a station that forms the nozzle aperture, die cuts the laminate film to fit into the shoulder of the shoulder/nozzle, and inserts this laminate film into the shoulder/nozzle. The laminate film can be heat bonded to the shoulder nozzle at this station or in a subsequent sealing station. After the shoulder/nozzle leaves the station that forms and inserts the laminate film into the shoulder/nozzle there can be a detection station to determine if the laminate film is properly aligned in the shoulder/nozzle. There also can be a detection station after a subsequent sealing station. Shoulder/nozzles with sealed laminate film liner are then sent to tube making. The laminate film will have a polymer layer and a barrier layer comprising ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymers, polyethylene terephthalate polymers, polyethylene naphthalate polymers and acrylonitrile methyl-acrylate copolymers The tube packages produced using these shoulder/nozzles are very useful for products which contain flavorants, such as dentifrices.
