CLOSURE LOCKING MECHANISMS

A locking mechanism for a closure such as a window comprises a body containing a gear wheel that is rotated by a handle. This rotation is converted to a locking action by actuating members which are provided with a helical thread which engages helical teeth on the gear wheel. Rotation in one sense throws the members out of the body to perform a locking action and reverse rotation retracts the members into the body in an unlocking action. The position of the members can be altered simply by screwing the members into and out of the body.

DOOR LOCK SYSTEM

A door lock system (20) comprising a door frame (22) mounted in an entry (24) of a building (26). An entrance door (28) is hinged at (30) along one side edge to the door frame (22). The entrance door (28) has a standard door lock unit (32) to engage with the door frame (22). A locking mechanism for securing a door of a safe within a frame includes a drive gear rotatably mounted on the interior surface of the door. An extension fitted with a rack gear is mechanically cooperated with the drive gear. First and second operating levers are pivotally mounted on the closure panel for movement about spaced axes and are respectively pivotally connected with first and second latch bolts having interengaging gear teeth which rotate the operating levers through 90° of rotation oppositely of each other between latching positions wherein the operating levers are positioned generally colinear with each other and the latch bolts to effect extension of the latch bolts into engagement with the keepers and unlatching positions wherein the operating levers are located generally parallel to one another and normal to the latch bolts. The keepers are mounted for transverse adjusting movement to align with the latch bolts. The latch bolts are vertically aligned with the keepers by vertically adjustable plates on the closure panel. ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE On a panel frame 1 of a closure made of metal or plastic profiles, the grooved surface 4 has a guide channel 5 which is open on one side, but provided on both sides with undercuttings 6 in the crosswise direction for the accommodation of a connecting rod. The connecting rod found in guide channel 5 is coupled by the open side of the latter with a control mechanism, which has a pinion 14 that can be driven by an operating handle and is supported in a housing. In the region of incorporation of the control mechanism, the metal or plastic profile of panel frame 1 is provided with a notch 22, which penetrates the bottom 8 of guide channel 5 and in which is engaged the housing segment 15 of the control mechanism supporting pinion 14. An interconnected lock is disclosed which can be used in applications which have differing center distances. A rack is located between the lower operator assembly and the upper deadbolt for engaging a pinion which will release the deadbolt. This pinion can be vertically located at a position to receive the drive spindle of the deadbolt. A second pinion which is secured to the turn lever for the deadbolt is secured to the faceplate. These pinions cooperate with adjacent width portions of the rack enabling the faceplate to operate with different center distances.

A locking mechanism for use with lightweight security doors includes a first gear and a mechanically associated second gear. A lock disposed proximate the second gear is adapted to form a releasable locking engagement with the second gear. The first gear is mechanically associated with a locking assembly which intercooperates with the door frame of the security door to produce a locking engagement therewith. The locking assembly is actuated by the rotation of the first gear. A rotation of the first gear causes a corresponding rotation of the second gear and vice versa. The second gear is mounted to be manually displaceable whereby the second gear can be displaced out of engagement with the lock and thereby become rotatable notwithstanding that the lock has been set in its locked condition. The locking mechanism provides a construction which may be unlocked by an individual positioned proximate the interior surface of the security door especially someone who has been inadvertently locked in a vault or security room fitted with a security door.

An improved locking system for furniture of the type having a plurality of drawers, at least one of which is locked from a remote position through a keyed operator module by translating a slide bar to interfere with one of the drawers in a locked position. A flexible, rotatable cable extends between the operator module and a connector/actuator module associated with the slide bar. The connector/actuator module comprises a crank with an integral shaft and rotatable, eccentric lug which is directed in an L-shaped slot in a slide plate. Rotation of the cable imparts translatory movement to the slide plate which is followed by the slide bar. In another aspect of the invention, the operator module, which is geared to the cable through a translatable rack, causes extension of a bolt on the rack to lock a second drawer simultaneously as the slide bar realizes a locked position. The modular construction of the connector/actuator and operator permits separate manufacture and assembly after which the cable can be operatively engaged with each.

A locking system for safe doors of the type comprising a turnable handle or handwheel for operating one or more sets of bolts (16, 18, 20) between a locked position, wherein the bolts project into the door rim, and an unlocked position, wherein the bolts are withdrawn from the door rim. The system is characterized by bolts securing means in the form of locking pins (34, 35, 64, 66, 84, 86) adapted to be inserted, in the locked position of the bolt, into aligned bores formed through each bolt and through a wall of a fixed bolt housing block slidingly supporting the bolt during the displacement thereof between the locked and unlocked positions. The pins are displaced into their locking or inserted position immediately after the locking of the bolts during a continuous rotation of the handle.

An apparatus and method is disclosed for selectively locking and unlocking a large, heavy bulkhead door at several points about its periphery. A plurality of locking fingers are slidably mounted on the door for selective extension and retraction with respect to the door edges. A handle mounted on the door provided for rotational movement of a handle shaft. A double rack and pinion linkage responds to rotational movement of the handle shaft to cause a pair of drive rods to move axially and linearly outwardly and inwardly from the handle shaft. A pair of shaft drive assemblies, including second rack and pinion structures, causes axial rotation of two substantially vertical drive shafts extending along the door edges. A plurality of finger drive assemblies is coupled, by third rack and pinion structures, to extend and retract the locking fingers in unison in response to rotation of the drive shafts. The door itself is suspended on a plurality of special lost motion floating hinges to enable it to seat evenly in a casing defining the opening the door is to cover, in order to establish a uniform seal force about the periphery of the door and the inside edge of the casing. The locking fingers each have an inclined portion to facilitate a ramped engagement with the casing to increase the sealing force as the fingers are progressively extended. A detent structure associated with each finger holds the fingers in locked position until release and door opening is desired. A silver-impregnated elastomeric resilient door sealing member is provided.

A mechanism for providing a multi point bolting action to secure a door or other leaf movable within a frame is disclosed. The mechanism comprises a drive gear and an axle gear mounted to rotate about substantially the same axis. The idle gear is arranged to rotate in one sense when the drive gear rotates in the other sense. The mechanism also comprises at least one first member arranged to move between a thrown position and a retracted position when the drive gear rotates, and at least one second member arranged to move between a thrown position and a retracted position when the idle gear rotates. The invention aims to provide in a closing device of the specified kind a locking and unlocking mechanism suitable for use with all usual types of lock.
