The insulation board provides a thermal barrier for conduction, convection and radiation aspects of thermal energy transfer. One end of a sheet to be joined to a second end of the same or other sheet is folded back on itself and on end of the other member inserted. The two pairs of contacting surfaces thus formed are subsequently bonded to each other. The bonding may be by any means and the clamping force across the bond during bonding need be applied from one side of the sheet only. By insuring that the peel bond fails before the material, a flat lap bond may be achieved by causing only the peel bond to fail.

The bending straps (47) have a configuration and orientation which increases their strength and fatigue resistance, and most preferably slits (43) or arcs are used which causes edges to be engaged and supported on faces of the sheet material on opposite sides of the slits or arcs. The edge-to-face contact produces bending along a virtual fulcrum position in superimposed relation to the bend line Several slit (43) embodiments suitable for producing edge-to-face engagement support and precise bending are disclosed. With these teachings, forming numerous three-dimensional load-bearing structures from a two dimensional sheet (41) are enabled. Examples of straight and curved beams, chassis, and exoskeletons are disclosed.

Abstract of the Disclosure A novel low bulk seam is disclosed for use in paper making machine fabrics, such as dryer felts. The seam is particularly adapted for use with multi-filament yarns which comprise multi-ply fabrics. A novel method for pro-ducing this seam is disclosed which comprises the insertion and adhesion of a seaming coil, the removal of picks in adjacent fabric areas, the folding and overlapping of such areas, the creation of a warp fringe, and the pulling of portions of that fringe into and through portions of the fabric body fasteners to create a stitchless seam providing substantially uniform thickness and air permeability across the full fabric width. A durable, reliable, non-marking seam is accordingly provided for use with spun, mono-filament and/or multi-filament fabrics.

SUBSTANCE: method of making a corner fitting involves the following operations: providing a flat woven fabric (20) having a first woven area which has fibres lying in a first and a second direction, a second woven area lying next to the first woven area and having fibres (28) lying in the first direction, and sacrificial fibres (26) lying in the second direction, and a third semi-woven area having fibres lying in the first direction and selectively meshed with the sacrificial threads lying in the second direction. The method also involves operations for folding the flat woven fabric in at least one direction and removing the sacrificial fibres lying in the second direction. During this removal process, these sacrificial fibres are replaced on the second woven area with fibres from the third semi-woven area lying in the first direction, and a corner fitting is formed, having continuous fibres which join all sides. A weather resistant commodity stockpile and collection pond covering system made up of a plurality of sheets joined together in waterproof seams. A plurality of flexible cords are tightly encapsulated and fixed in each sheet at spaced apart locations within thermally welded prayer seams and utilized for retention of the cover system and the hanging of ballast bags. The peeling stresses on the prayer seams are transferred as shearing stresses to lap seams formed by welding choker strips to the cover sheets on either side of each prayer seam. Side cords encapsulated in edge seams along side edges of adjacent sheets are abutted together and secured by flexible ties to form joints between sheets. Those joints are made waterproof by edge flaps attached to the sheets which are extended over each joint and sealed to the face of an adjoining sheet.

Means (20, 87, 88, 89) control relative positions laterally or longitudinally between said elements during attaching them together to enable precise repetition of their mutually relative positions after attachment. A plurality of channels for simultaneously producing articles (136) have a common motive source (68) and respective means (100) to switch off source (68) from each channel independently, and plug and/or other quick release means (102) to allow quick release and removal of an operative unit (e.g. 12) from one channel with minimum downtime for the other channels.

Resistance is provided by weight plates mounted on the head-end of the support for the upper-torso. The upper-torso support at the head-end is connecting to a lever. The lever is connected to handles and resistance pads engageable by the exerciser's hands and forearms respectively. The upper-torso support and the exerciser's upper-torso move forwardly and upwardly to perform positive work and rearwardly and downwardly to perform negative work. Respectively, the handles and resistance pads move forward and toward the exercisers lower-body during positive work and rearward and away from the exercisers lower-body during negative work.

A mailing envelope with a plurality of inserts is made by imaging variable color indicia on both faces of a paper substrate and imaging sense marks, and reply indicia, on at least one face of the substrate. The sense marks are used to properly align and slit the substrate web into a web of pre-determined width (removing the sense marks), and then label portions are flexographically printed on the first face of the web with magnetic ink. Adhesive and a release liner (e.g. using transfer tape) are applied to the second face of the web at the label portions and the labels are die cut from the label portions. The web is cut into sheets of predetermined length, each sheet including at least one set of labels, and the sheet is buckle folded to form a folded sheet with a plurality of panels in the sheet, at least one panel having a set of labels. The folded sheet is then trimmed to form at least two distinct inserts from the folded sheet, at least one distinct insert comprising a reply insert with reply indicia on it. The inserts are inserted, with a reply envelope, into an outgoing envelope to produce a mailing envelope. Typically the folded sheet has at least four panels, including at least two aligned fold lines, and trimming is accomplished by severing the sheet at the aligned fold lines to form at least three different inserts, at an inserter.

Disclosed are novel light polarizing articles comprising a substrate, a light polarizing layer, an inorganic intermediate layer between the polarizing layer and the substrate, an optional inorganic sub-layer between the substrate and the inorganic intermediate layer, and a protective layer over the light polarizing layer, and method of making the same. Due to the presence of the inorganic intermediate layer and the optional sub-layer, adhesion of the polarizing layer is improved substantially. The light polarizing article has improved chemical, mechanical and thermal resistance. The light polarizing article can be used, for example, as ophthalmic products and in display devices.
