Эти домены имеют определенный размер, форму и распределение и при вытяжении волокон они поглощают энергию и принимают удлиненную форму. Это способствует получению композиции более пластичной и мягкой по сравнению с жесткой полимолочной кислотой, не содержащей таких доменов. Between the base metal (e.g. tungsten) and the emissive layer an intermediate layer is provided consisting of a silicide of the base metal, to prevent the formation of undesirable reaction products and interface compounds between the base and emissive materials. In an example a tungsten coil is heated with powdered silicon in a stream of equal parts of hydrogen and hydrochloric acid gas at 700‹- 950‹-1400‹ C., to form the tungsten silicide or disilicide. Additionally metal grains which have been similarly coated with silicide are mixed with the emissive material. The cathodes are particularly useful in fluorescent mercury discharge lamps, where they reduce blackening.

To avoid the problem of balling when mixing, two alternatives are suggested. The first consists of strands of fibre, cut from recycled vehicle tyres. The second consists of a mixture of fibre lengths and thicknesses, giving a wide distribution of l/d ratios, which has the effect of reducing balling tendancy so that densities up to 1.5% can be achieved.

Submicroscopic b -SiC fibres are made by mixing SiO2 and C in a molar ratio of 1:1 to 10 in a reaction chamber, reacting the mixture at 1375 DEG to 1575 DEG C. in the presence of a COcontaining atmosphere, the CO having a partial pressure of 5 to 500 mm. Hg, forming the fibres from the reaction product at 1050 DEG to 1380 DEG C. and cooling the fibres to room temp. The atmosphere may also contain at least one of H2, He, N, and Ar and have a sum of partial pressures of 760 mm. Hg. The time to form the fibres may be 2 to 24 hrs. The reaction chamber may be evacuated to an abs. pressure of not more than 5 mm. Hg and heated to 600 DEG C. after providing the SiO2 and C mixture so as to allow complete degassing. The fibres may be cooled by cooling the chamber to 600 DEG C., introducing air and cooling further to room temp. The fibres have an average diameter of 250 <\>rA, a length up to 100m , a length to diameter ratio of 40,000:1 and have a surface sheath of SiO2.

A novel method is disclosed to produce on a commercial scale, high aspect ratio cellulose nanofilaments (CNF) from natural lignocellulosic fibers. The method consists of a multi-pass high consistency refining (HCR) of chemical or mechanical fibers using specific combinations of refining intensity and specific energy. The CNF produced by this invention represents a mixture of fine filaments with widths in the submicron and lengths from tens of micrometers to few millimeters. The resultant product is made of a population of free filaments and filaments bound to the fiber core from which they were produced. The proportion of free and bound filaments is governed in large part by total specific energy applied to the pulp in the refiner. These CNF products differ from other cellulose fibrillar materials by their higher aspect ratio and the preserved degree of polymerization (DP) of cellulose. Polycrystalline silicon of the invention contains: (a) polycrystalline silicon fragments, wherein at least 90% of the fragments have a size from 10 to 40 mm, (b) <15 ppmw of silicon dust particles having particle sizes <400 μm; (c) <14 ppmw of silicon dust particles having particle sizes <50 μm; (d) <10 ppmw of silicon dust particles having particle sizes <10 μm; (e) <3 ppmw of silicon dust particles having particle sizes <1 μm; and (f) surface metal impurities in an amount ≦0.1 ppbw and ≧100 ppbw. A polycrystalline silicon production method of the invention includes fracturing polycrystalline silicon deposited on thin rods in a Siemens reactor into fragments; classifying the fragments by size; and treating the fragments with compressed air or dry ice to remove silicon dust from the fragments without wet chemical cleaning.

The structure, crystallinity, and sensoric character of these electrostatically processed nanowires are discussed. An astrocyte-specific drug carrier containing a retinoid derivative and/or a vitamin A analog as a constituent; a drug delivery method with the use of the same; a drug containing the same; and a therapeutic method with the use of the drug. By binding a drug carrier to a retinoid derivative such as vitamin A or a vitamin A analog or encapsulating the same in the drug carrier, a drug for therapeutic use can be delivered specifically to astrocytes. As a result, an astrocyte-related disease can be efficiently and effectively inhibited or prevented while minimizing side effects. As the drug inhibiting the activity or growth of astrocytes, for example, a siRNA against HSP47 which is a collagen-specific molecule chaperone may be encapsulated in the drug carrier. Thus, the secretion of type I to type IV collagens can be inhibited at the same time and, in its turn, fibrosis can be effectively inhibited.

A method to produce on a commercial scale, high aspect ratio cellulose nanofilaments (CNF) from natural lignocellulosic fibers comprises a multi-pass high consistency refining (HCR) of chemical or mechanical fibers using combinations of refining intensity and specific energy. The CNF produced represents a mixture of fine filaments with widths in the submicron and lengths from tens of micrometers to few millimeters. The product has a population of free filaments and filaments bound to the fiber core from which they were produced. The proportion of free and bound filaments is governed in large part by total specific energy applied to the pulp in the refiner, and differs from other cellulose fibrillar materials by their higher aspect ratio and the preserved degree of polymerization (DP) of cellulose, and are excellent additives for the reinforcement of paper, tissue, paperboard and the like. They display exceptional strengthening power for never-dried paper webs.
