A process for acetylation of wood having a density of above 400 kg/m, particularly, of Southern Yellow Pine, allows the production of acetylated wood having higher acetylation levels, such as an acetyl content of at least 20% by weight. The acetylated wood has also a low residual acetic acid content, in particular, lower than 1% by weight. The invention is particularly useful for acetylation on industrial scale of pieces of solid wood, preferably, of wood beams. 1. A process for the acetylation of wood comprising the steps:{'sup': '3', '(a) in a reaction pressure vessel submerging wood having a moisture content from 1 to 4% by weight and an oven dry density of above 500 kg/min an acetylation fluid comprising acetic anhydride and/or acetic acid at a temperature of 10° C. to 120° C.,'}(b) increasing the pressure in the vessel to 2 to 20 bar for a period of 1 to 300 minutes,(c) removing excess acetylation fluid from the vessel,(d) introducing into the vessel an inert fluid, circulating and heating the fluid until the internal temperature of the wood begins to show a first exothermic reaction, controlling the supply of heat to the wood until the first exothermic reaction is complete and maintaining the internal temperature of the wood below 180° C.,(e) heating the circulating fluid to a temperature of 85° C. to 160° C. for a time of 10 to 120 minutes to initiate a second exothermic reaction, controlling the supply of heat to the wood until the second exothermic reaction is complete and maintaining the internal temperature of the wood below 180° C., such that the acetylation fluid contains reaction products of an acetylation reaction,(f) removing the acetylation fluid containing the reaction products of acetylation by evaporation under vacuum.2. A method of milling chlorothalonil to form a sub-micron product having a narrow particle size distribution is presented. The milling involves wet milling of the chlorothalonil with high density milling media having a diameter between 0.1 mm and 0.8 mm, preferably between 0.2 mm and 0.7 mm, and a density equal to or greater than 3.8 g/cc, preferably greater than 5.5 g/cc, in a ball mill using between about 40% and 80% loading of the mill volume with milling media, and having the chlorothalonil suspended in an aqueous milling liquid which comprises one or more surface active agents. The milling speed is preferably high, for example from about 1000 rpm to about 4000 rpm. The milled product can be used in foliar applications at a lower effective dosage than prior art formulations, can be used in improved antifouling paint formulations, and can be used in new applications such as the direct injection of solid chlorothalonil particulates in wood to act as a long lasting wood preservative.

Hybrid strategies generally involve treating biodegradable substrates with preservative compositions having at least two phases in which the metal biocide is distributed among at least the two phases and via equilibrium reactions moves between the two phases. Both phases are caused to contact the substrate in a manner so that the phases are in contact with each other during at least a portion of the treatment. In illustrative embodiments, the first phase is a liquid phase comprising complexed metal biocide dissolved in a liquid carrier, while the second phase comprises particles comprising the metal biocide, often precipitated and/or colloidal particles. The strategies and related compositions, processes, and treatments are hybrid in the sense that the strategies include both heterogeneous (insoluble) and homogeneous metal biocide constituents. Unlike heterogeneous strategies, hybrid strategies are less sensitive to particle size constraints and may use biocide particles with a wider range of particle sizes. Unlike homogeneous strategies, hybrid strategies are less sensitive to pH and may use a wider range of complexing agents, including mildly alkaline amines such as triethanolamine.

It is provided a wood flooring having laminated wood and plastic layers symmetric to each other and method of manufacturing the same. The wood flooring has an upper layer including laminated wood, a core layer including plastic sheets manufactured by calendaring, and a lower layer including veneer board, the lower layer being made of the same material as the upper layer, which are piled up symmetrically in order to keep the balance between the upper layer and lower layer, and then integrated under a constant temperature and pressure to form a suitable layers made by wood and plastic, thereby providing natural feeling in surface and solving the problem of distortion according to the change of environment.
