Interlacing of the middle wefts by the central tension warps locks the wefts in place, providing enhanced resistance to faster pullout. The lack of straight tension warps provides a highly flexible fabric that can be used in multi-ply applications. A conveyor belt incorporating one or more plies of the inventive fabric is disclosed, as is a method for manufacturing the belt.

Abrasion resistant glass fibres, and glass fibre textiles produced from rovings containing the fibres, are produced by (a) coating the fibres with a substance which converts their normal hydrophilic character to a hydrophobic character; and (b) impregnating the roving with a binder containing fine particles of a solid organic polymeric lubricant, the fine particles being held in place between the fibres of the roving by the binder, which bonds to the modified surface of the fibres. Textile composed of glass fibres normally have a poor resistance to abrasion, and this has limited their use, in spite of other advantageous properties possessed by these textiles. An improved method of making a carbon composite product wherein a fabric comprised of oxidized or otherwise stabilized polyacrylonitrile fibers is heat treated and then coated with a closely controlled amount of a carbonaceous binder such as a polyimide resin. The fabric is then further heat treated to thermally fuse the resin to the fabric to form a rigid, easily handleable material. The carbonaceous binder is applied to the fabric in a manner whereby substantial encapsulation of the individual fibers is avoided. Next the material is cut into swatches of a predetermined size and shape and the segments are arranged into a basic or starting substrate having a volume greater than the desired volume of the end product. The basic substrate thus formed is then subjected to controlled temperatures and pressures to form a shaped substrate having a known fiber volume, a high degree of open porosity and a shape substantially corresponding to the shape desired of the end product. A cleaning medium that includes polyisobutylene (also sometimes referred to as polybutylene or as polybutene). Cleaning media include cleaning implements, polishers, and filters. Typically a substantial portion of the polyisobutylene has a molecular weight (MW) greater than 30,000 and in some particular applications the molecular weight is around 85,000. The polyisobutylene is generally adjacent to the surface of a substrate, such as a non-woven or woven fabric. A method of making a cleaning medium is provided. The method typically involves dissolving polyisobutylene in a solvent such as hexane to form a tackifier solution, soaking the substrate in the tackifier to produce a preform, and then drying the preform to produce the cleaning medium. The cleaning media are typically used dry, without any liquid cleaning agent. In embodiments where the cleaning medium is as cleaning implement or a polisher, the surface to be cleaned is wiped with a surface of the cleaning medium adjacent to which the polyisobutylene is disposed. Vigorous wiping may be used in applications where contamination is difficult to remove. In embodiments where the cleaning medium is a filter, a fluid is passed through the cleaning medium and the cleaning medium traps particles and aerosols entrained in the fluid.
