Valve control means comprise coaxial shafts 1, 2 carrying at their upper ends crank-pins 3, 4 and rollers 5, 6 which engage a cam-groove 7 in a worm-wheel 8, and being splined at their lower ends to screw-threaded bushings 13, 14. Bushing 14 has an extension 18 which contains a piston 10 integral with the gate of the valve and has a screw-threaded connection, of relatively small pitch, with the bushing 13 which has a screw-threaded connection, of relatively coarser pitch, with a valve case 16. During the first half-rotation of wheel 8, shaft 2 remains stationary and bushing 13 rotates to effect rapid downward movement of piston 10 towards the valve closure position. During the second half-rotation of wheel 8, shaft 1 remains stationary and bushing 14 is rotated to complete the downward motion of piston 10 slowly. An assembly of flexible washers 19 holds the gate to its seating in the closed position.

A locking system locks the first and third segment in rotation with respect to one another. The pitch of the nut internal thread is smaller than that of the external thread so that rotary motion reduction occurs at the output sleeve. A ball bearing is positioned in contacting support between the sleeve and the shaft thereby minimizing output sleeve tolerance accumulations of eccentricity and axial positioning.

A slow linear motion is produced differentially from two intermediate rotary members driven at slightly different speeds from a rapidly rotating input shaft. In a feed mechanism for a drill head (not shown) axial feed movement of a shaft 34, against a return spring 38, is produced by the relative rotation of an externally threaded sleeve 28, slidably keyed to a shaft 25 driven by pulley 27, and a nut member 44 rigid with a rocking arm 41 pivoted at 42 on a flywheel 16 driven by a pulley 20. The pulleys 27, 20 are driven from a drive shaft 11 by a pair of pulleys 27, one of which may be of variable effective diameter to predetermine the relative speeds of the pulleys 27, 20. A piston 47 axially movable under manual control of a lever and cam 52, 53 has a skirt bore 48 which coacts with a ball 50 on the lever 41 to hold the nut member 44 in engagement with the threaded sleeve; a cam ring 49 in the skirt allowing release of the member 44 when the piston is moved axially by the lever 52. In a second embodiment (Fig. 3) the drill spindle 64 is moved axially by a quill 77 acted on by a face cam 60 and cam follower 61 rotated slowly with respect to each other by pulleys 65, 68 respectively. Slow feed and fast return or intermittent progressive feed may be obtained by suitable design of the face cam 60.

The unique motions of the parts and the self-locking behavior of the device being made achievable by the eccentricity of the axes of the said fine and coarse threads. The speed ratio of the device is dependent on the ratio of the leads of the fine and coarse threads.

Ein Doppelschneckenstirnradantrieb in Form eines elektromotorischen Linearantriebes, der bevorzugt für Möbel in Krankenhaus- und Pflegebereich verwendet wird, der mit einem Gehäuse ausgestattet ist, an das eine feststehendes Flanschrohr angesetzt ist und der einen Schneckentrieb aufweist, dessen Schnecke auf den Motorzapfen eines Elektromotors aufgekeilt ist, und die mit mindestens zwei Schnekkenstirnrädern in Eingriff steht, um eine Spindel anzutreiben, soll so gestaltet werden, dass die Reinigung bzw. Desinfizierung mit einer entsprechenden Flüssigkeit problemlos durchgeführt werden kann. Erfindungsgemäss wird zum Schutz gegen Eindringen von Reinigungsflüssigkeit zumindest ein Teil der Stossflächen des Gehäuses durch Dichtelemente (14, 26, 28, 37) abgedichtet. Das Flanschrohr (23) ist gegenüber dem Getriebegehäuse (11) durch eine Rundschnurdichtung oder durch einen O-Ring abgedichtet. In das freie Ende des Flanschrohres (23) ist eine Führungskappe (25) fest eingesetzt, die gegenüber dem Flanschrohr (23) durch eine Dichtung, vorzugsweise durch eine Flachdichtung abgedichtet ist. Der erfindungsgemässe Doppelschneckenstirnradantrieb wird bevorzugt für Krankenhausbetten und Pflegebetten verwendet.
