A direct drive system for a baler of large round bales. A plurality of driven gearboxes, each of which has a planetary gear system and an interconnected bevel gear system, are located on a side wall of the baler and are each drivably connected to one of a plurality of transverse driven shafts of the baler. A distribution gearbox on the side of the baler is connected through a right angle gearbox to the power take-off of a tractor. Power from the distribution gearbox is distributed to the plurality of driven gearboxes through a plurality of driven gearboxes through a plurality of lateral drive shafts. The direct drive system of the present invention replaces substantially all of the roller chain and sprocket drive system of known balers.

In a described embodiment, the freewheel device comprises a plurality of rollers retained circumferentially adjacent one end of an axially movable shaft in operative association with a plurality of wedge-shaped portions formed on the shaft, axial movement of the shaft serving to engage the rollers between the wedge-shaped portions and, selectively axially spaced-apart internal, cylindrical surfaces formed on each of the outputs and on a rotatable support. The freewheel device finds particular application in the transmission system of multi-engined helicopters.

A concentric face gear assembly includes a first face gear (50) having first face gear teeth and second face gear (45) having second face gear teeth. At least one input pinion (43) and at least one idler pinion (81) contact both face gears. The first face gear (50) directly drives a rotor, but the second face gear (45) does not directly drive a rotor. Since it does not drive a rotor, the second face gear (45) does not comprise a web or spline attachment and is therefore lightweight. Both face gears include thrust bearings (47, 52), which are located radially outwardly of the first face gear teeth and radially inwardly of the second face gear teeth. The first face gear (50) includes a web, which is relatively thin due to the thrust bearing (52) of the first face gear (50) being located radially outwardly of the first face gear teeth.

A brake arrangement is disclosed for rail vehicles which include two track wheel sets having two wheels connected by a shaft. A multi-stage reduction gear is connected to each track wheel shaft. The two multi-stage reduction gears are connected to an electric motor which has an armature shaft extending in the direction of movement of the rail vehicle. Each multi-stage reduction gear has at least one intermediate power transmission shaft which extends out of a housing of the reduction gear. At least one disc brake is connected to each intermediate shaft at a position outside the reduction gear housing. A caliper arrangement with calipers and caliper actuators is rigidly connected to the housing and engages the disc so that there is no relative movement between the disc and the housing during operation of the rail vehicle.

A plurality of driven gearboxes, each of which has a planetary gear system and an interconnected bevel gear system, are located on a side wall of the baler and are each drivably connected to one of a plurality of transverse driven shafts of the baler. A distribution gearbox on the side of the baler is connected through a right angle gearbox to the power take-off of a tractor. Power from the distribution gearbox is distributed to the plurality of driven gearboxes through a plurality of driven gearboxes through a plurality of lateral drive shafts. The direct drive system of the present invention replaces substantially all of the roller chain and sprocket drive system of known balers.

The present invention relates to a mechanical device (1) for reducing the energy absorbed by an electric motor (M) of a hoisting plant (2). The device according to the invention comprises at least one first rotating member (PA) moved by the motor of the hoisting plant. The device also comprises a second rotating member (PB) connected to the first rotating member through first transmission means (Tl). At least one third rotating member (PR) is connected to the second rotating member through second transmission means (C), which develop a transmission ratio equal to unity. The device further comprises a fourth rotating member (PM) operatively connected to the rotor of the electric motor. The fourth rotating member and the third rotating member are connected through third flexible - element - transmission means (T2), which develop a transmission ratio equal to unity. The transmission means of the device according to the present invention are designed to enable rotation of said fourth rotating member in a direction of rotation concordant with that of said first rotating member.

The transmission assembly also comprises an auxiliary output transmission (39) in the drive from the front differential output shaft to the front propshaft, the transmission assembly being arranged so that front and rear rotary outputs (37B, 38B) to the front and rear propshafts are axially offset from a rotary input (33) from the input propshaft, the front rotary output by an amount greater than that of the rear rotary output. The change speed transmission is conveniently adapted from a known automatic transmission for front wheel drive vehicles and can be connected using an input transmission (34).

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved four wheel drive system for a vehicle is disclosed. The system includes A first carrier assembly connected to a power generation system of the vehicle and adapted to transmit power to a first pair of drive wheels. A second carrier assembly having an input member and an output member connected to a second pair of drive wheels is also provided. The second carrier assembly is adapted to transmit power from the input member to the output member. A mechanism is provided for selectively connecting the first carrier assembly to the input member of the second carrier assembly for transmitting power thereto. A biasing structure is further provided for moving one of the input and output members relative to the other of the input and output members prior to connecting the first carrier assembly to the input member of the second carrier assembly. In a first embodiment, a rack and pinion arrangement is provided to rotate the input member relative to the output member, while a clutch is connected between the first carrier assembly and the input member. A vacuum control circuit and an electrical control circuit sense the movement of the input member and prevent the clutch from connecting the first carrier assembly to the input member until the input member has moved a predetermined amount. In a second embodiment, drive gears and biasing gears are selectively connected to the input member by first and second clutches, respectively. A hydraulic control circuit and an electrical control circuit are provided to prevent the first clutch from connecting the drive gear to the input member prior to the second clutch connecting the biasing gear to the input member.
