An electrolyte used in aluminum electrolysis is disclosed, which is composed of(in mass percent) KF 10%-50%, NaF 0-35%, LiF 0-3%, Al­­2O3 2%-6%, CaF2 0-5%, MgF2 0-3% and the balance is AlF3 and inevitable impurities. The primary crystallization temperature of the present electrolyte used in aluminum electrolysis is 560-800ºC, its saturation solubility of alumina in it at 700-800ºC is 3%-8% and density is 1.8-2.1g/cm3. When the present electrolyte is used with inert anode, inert cathode and the electrolytic cell with new configuration, the cell temperature can be decreased to 690-850ºC, thus it can greatly decrease the energy consumption. Meanwhile, greenhouse gases such as CO2 and perfluorinated compounds can not be produced during the electrolysis, and aluminum electrolysis can be carried out in an energy-saving and environment-friendly way.
