Disclosed are a method and a system for Trap handling based on Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). The method includes: after detecting an interface alarm event, an SNMP network element sends a Trap message to an SNMP network manager, said Trap message carries information of the location where the alarm event occurs; according to the information of the location where the alarm event occurs carried in the Trap message, the SNMP network manager acquires from the SNMP network element information of the interface where the interface alarm event occurs, and compares the information of the interface with the alarm information carried in the Trap message, and if the information of the interface is identical with the alarm information, verifies that the Trap message is valid, and then processes the alarm. A method for configuring Optical Network Unit (ONU) of Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) system is provided by the embodiments of the present invention, and the method includes: ONU receives a configuration data frame broadcasted by Optical Line Terminal (OLT), wherein, said configuration data frame includes a configuration template, which is generated according to the configuration data required to be used by ONU, and a template ID; when said ONU determines the template ID carried by said configuration data frame is the same as the template ID stored by itself, it extracts the configuration template carried by said configuration data frame; and said ONU configures itself by using said extracted configuration template. The present invention realizes the simple and efficient configuration for ONU, and improves the efficiency for configuring ONU in EPON.
