A method for configuring Optical Network Unit (ONU) of Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) system is provided by the embodiments of the present invention, and the method includes: ONU receives a configuration data frame broadcasted by Optical Line Terminal (OLT), wherein, said configuration data frame includes a configuration template, which is generated according to the configuration data required to be used by ONU, and a template ID; when said ONU determines the template ID carried by said configuration data frame is the same as the template ID stored by itself, it extracts the configuration template carried by said configuration data frame; and said ONU configures itself by using said extracted configuration template. The present invention realizes the simple and efficient configuration for ONU, and improves the efficiency for configuring ONU in EPON.
