The present invention provides: a method for correcting a microalgae gene without DNA introduction by using a RNA-guided engineered nuclease (RGEN) RNP complex; and a microalgae variant with a corrected gene. The gene correction method according to the present invention has an advantage in that a desired gene can be selectively and accurately corrected without DNA introduction. In addition, the present invention is directed to novel algae with an improved pigment producing ability, and the use of a mutant strain of the present invention can produce carotenoid-based pigments, specifically, xanthophylls, through the consumption of less energy, thus leading to an efficient production of pigments at the industrial level.
