The present invention presents a tandem molecular intercalation, as a novel delamination concept, for making a multi-layered metal chalcogenide into a single layer in a colloidal state. The tandem molecular intercalation needs a tandem Lewis base intercalation. First, a short ″initiation″ molecule is inserted into chalcogenide to widen intervals between layers. In addition, a long ″main″ molecule is inserted into the intervals to maximize the width of he intervals, thereby overcoming the force of the interlayer interaction in a random mixing state of intercalates. Therefore, voluntary delamination occurs, and thus a single-layer metal chalcogenide can be obtained. The tandem molecular intercalation has a distinctive advantage in that the tandem molecular intercalation is conducted by a simple one-step manner in a safe and mild environment (room temperature without ultrasonic degradation or hydrogen generation).
