Provided are a method and an apparatus for joining index sequences in SPARQL which reduce generation of unnecessary intermediate results. A method for joining index sequences in SPARQL comprises: a grouping step of allocating all triple patterns having the same key variable into one group; a merging step of merging all index sequences which are scanned by the respective triple patterns allocated to the one group into one intermediate result (in the following, referred to as a ″nascent intermediate result (NIR)″); a connecting step of connecting NIRs of respective groups with one another; and an expanding step of expanding the respective connected NIRs into a complete format index table. According to the present invention, since an incomplete intermediate result without redundancy is generated during a joining process, memory use is reduced, a memory can be used efficiently and stably, and a process speed is increased.
