The present invention comprises the steps of: creating multiple waiting rooms corresponding to respective regions; obtaining location information about a user terminal when a request for a chat service is received from the user terminal; providing the user terminal with a waiting room, among the multiple waiting rooms, in a first region corresponding to the location information about the user terminal; and providing the user terminal with a chat room which is selected by the user terminal among one or more chat rooms related to the waiting room. According to the present invention, a user who joins a waiting room can read and enjoy a chat between other users without actively participating in the chat. In addition, the waiting room can provide the user with an advertisement corresponding to the location of the user.
