The present invention relates to a new gene related with a cold stress tolerance of a plant and a purpose thereof. The present invention provides: a method to enhance a tolerance to cold stress by using Deschampsia antarcticaCold expressed1 (DaCold1) gene derived from DeschampsiaantarcticaDesv.; a method to manufacture a transformed plant with an improved tolerance to cold stress; a transformed plant with an improved tolerance to cold stress; a seed thereof; and a composition to improve a cold stress tolerance of a plant including a gene coding the DaCold1 protein. According to the present invention, the gene, coding the DaCold1 protein derived from DeschampsiaantarcticaDesv., influences a cold stress tolerance of a plant. The transformed plant, made by overexpressing the gene, has an excellent tolerance to cold stress, and thus, the plant is able to be used as a new functional plant, which is not influenced by the climate or condition of a cultivation region.
