According to the present invention, the geographic information system comprises: a geographic information providing server to store an electronic map and a point of interest (POI) as a database; and a communication terminal to receive the electronic map from the geographic information providing server, and displaying the received electronic map on a screen wherein the geographic information providing server divides the electronic map displayed on the screen of the communication terminal in a set size, counts a number of POIs corresponding to each of the divided electronic maps, and the POIs with respect to a corresponding area converted into numerical information to provide to the communication terminal if the number of POIs is equal or greater than a set value.
