... 21,051. Pugh, W., Pugh, T., and Allen, J. F. Sept. 15. Couplings, automatic.-In couplings for railway wagons, carriages, &c., of the type comprising links pivoted to each vehicle and shaped so as to enter each other and engage with the opposing draw - hooks when the vehicles are pushed together, the links are formed so that either of a pair of approaching links can enter the other, and uncoupling is effected by means separate from the links, and comprising arms mounted on operating cross-shafts. The links A are shaped as shown so that either of them may enter the other, and are pivoted to the drawhooks H, being retained in the horizontal position by stops C. The uncoupling-arms D, connected to the cross-shafts E, normally hang in the position shown in Fig. 1 so as to engage behind the opposing links A when coupled, and are forked at their lower ends to clear the hooks H. The arms D may carry stops K, which serve to limit the upward movement of the links A when coupling.
