A rotary vessel 20 for a filter assembly 10, the rotary vessel 20 comprises a rotor body 24 rotatable about an axis of rotation 26 and a spigot 28, 30 integral or coupled to the rotor body and extending therefrom along an axis of rotation 26. The spigot 28, 30 has an abutment surface against which, in use, a cooperating surface abuts to inhibit a movement of the rotary vessel relative to the cooperating surface and parallel to the axis of rotation. Preferably the spigot 28 has one or more elastically deformable portions that are each a radially deformable finger (78a, 78b, Fig 7) having a free end furthest from the rotor body 24. Also disclosed is a further invention directed to a filter assembly characterised by a housing and a connector. This arrangement of the rotary vessel may facilitate removal of the rotatory vessel when installed as part of a filter assembly.

A filter assembly 10 comprises a housing 12 having a main body 14 and a closure member 16. The closure member 16 is attachable to the main body to retain a rotary vessel 20 within the housing and is separable from the main body 14 by rotation of the closure member relative to the main body to permit removal of the rotary vessel from the housing. The filter assembly further comprises a locking member 22 that engages releasably with the housing to inhibit rotation of the closure member relative the main body. The locking member 22 may comprise a first formation (60, Fig 2) and the closure member 16 may comprise a second formation 62, the second formation 62 being complementary to the first formation. The rotary vessel may allow for separation by centrifugal force of contaminant material within a working fluid, such as oil. The filter assembly has particular application in a motor vehicle to reduce the risk of unintentional separation of the closure member from the main body.

The spigot extends from the rotor body along the axis of rotation for engagement with a bearing 34, 36. There may be a plurality of one or more fingers (78a, 78b, Fig 7) spaced about the spigot intermediate a plurality of gaps separating adjacent fingers. Preferably the rotary vessel may be included as part of a filter assembly. Advantageously the rotary vessel arrangement may inhibit rotation of the spigot when engaged with a bearing in a filter assembly, thus reducing wear of the spigot.
