Digital display set-up

A method for initiating a display screen 11 comprising pointing a camera 12 toward the screen and panning the camera while capturing image frames. Pan and tilt angles are stored, and the image frames are analysed to identify an image of the environment facing the screen. The camera can be tilted while capturing images. An image sensor 36 is associated with the display and captures images of the environment, for matching image features captured with the image sensor and the camera. A method for determining a viewing distance to a display screen is also disclosed, comprising: determining the screen size and orientation from an image frame captured from the camera or inputting the screen size and orientation; presenting an outline associated with the size and orientation on the mobile device; and, changing the distance of the mobile from the screen until the image of the screen matches the outline.
