A melt spinning apparatus is provided with a tube 2 having a nozzle 3 at the bottom thereof, a coil 4 for heating the tube and cooling roll 5 having a circumferential surface 53 in which dimple correcting means is provided. A melt spun ribbon 8 is formed by injecting the molten alloy 6 from the nozzle 3 so as to be collided with the circumferential surface 53 of the cooling roll 5 in an inert gas atmosphere (ambient gas) such as helium gas, so that the molten alloy 6 is cooled and then solidified. In this process, dimples to be produced on a roll contact surface of the melt spun ribbon are divided by the dimple correcting means, thereby preventing formation of huge dimples.

A method of manufacturing magnetic powder is disclosed. This method can provide magnetic powder from which a bonded magnet having excellent magnetic properties and reliability can be manufactured. A melt spinning apparatus 1 is provided with a tube 2 having a nozzle 3 at the bottom thereof, a coil 4 for heating the tube and a cooling roll 5. The cooling roll 5 is constructed from a roll base 51 and a circumferential surface 53 in which gas flow passages 54 for expelling gas are formed. A melt spun ribbon 8 is formed by injecting the molten alloy 6 from the nozzle 3 so as to be collided with the circumferential surface 53 of the cooling roll 5, so that the molten alloy 6 is cooled and then solidified. In this process, gas is likely to enter between a puddle 7 of the molten alloy 6 and the circumferential surface 53, but such gas is expelled by means of the gas flow passages 54. The magnetic powder is obtained by milling thus formed melt spun ribbon 8. In this method, when the average pitch of these gas flow passages 54 is defined as Pμm and the average particle size of the magnetic powder is defined as Dμm, the relationship represented by the formula P<D is satisfied.

The magnetic powder is composed of an alloy composition represented by R x (Fe 1-y Co y ) 100-x-z-w-v B z Al w V v (where R is at least one kind of rare-earth element, x is 7.1 - 9.9at%, y is 0 - 0.30, z is 4.6 - 6.9at%, w is 0.02 - 1.5at% and v is 0.2 - 3.5at%), the magnetic powder being constituted from a composite structure having a soft magnetic phase and a hard magnetic phase, wherein the magnetic powder has magnetic properties in which, when the magnetic powder is formed into an isotropic bonded magnet by mixing with a binding resin and then molding it, the irreversible susceptibility (χ irr ) which is measured by using an intersectioning point of a demagnetization curve in the J-H diagram representing the magnetic characteristics at the room temperature and a straight line which passes the origin in the J-H diagram and has a gradient (J/H) of -3.8 × 10 -6 H/m as a starting point is less than 5.0 × 10 -7 H/m, and the intrinsic coercive force (H CJ ) of the bonded magnet at the room temperature is in the range of 320 - 720 kA/m.

A lighting apparatus has a casing pivotally separable along an intermediate parting line so as to facilitate various operations such as assembly, replacement, repair and checking of components contained therein. These components can be a light source, a projector lens, a variable masking device and a cooling fan, for example. Additionally, displaceable pivots are provided along the parting line for pulling a pivotal mechanism into the casing as respective casing halves are coupled to each other. The pivots can be displaced as the casing is opened and closed so that not only the opening and closing operation can be smoothly performed but also the external appearance of the apparatus is never injured since the pivotal mechanism is not exposed and no gap is developed along the parting line upon completely coupling the casing halves. Furthermore, the pivots are displaceable against the tensile force of tension spring members and, after the casing halves have been coupled to each other, the pivotal mechanism is held by the tension spring members within the casing to assure a simplified structure and a reliable coupling effect.

A method and an apparatus for burning gaseous fuel, the composition of the fuel varying at times, wherein; main injection ports and sub-injection ports are arranged in such positions that the fuel injected through the sub-injection ports may be ignited by a flame formed from the fuel injected through the main injection ports; fuel passes are provided for conducting the gaseous fuel separately to the two groups of injection ports; and a control valve is provided for adjusting the ratio of the fuel flow to the main injection ports to the fuel flow to the sub-injection ports; whereby the proportion of the fuel to be injected through the main injection ports is increased as the rate of burning the gaseous fuel increases.

A method of manufacturing magnetic powder is disclosed. This method can provide magnetic powder from which a bonded magnet having excellent magnetic properties and reliability can be manufactured. A melt spinning apparatus 1 is provided with a tube 2 having a nozzle 3 at the bottom thereof, a coil 4 for heating the tube and a cooling roll 5. The cooling roll 5 is constructed from a roll base 51 and a circumferential surface 53 in which gas flow passages 54 for expelling gas are formed. A melt spun ribbon 8 is formed by injecting the molten alloy 6 from the nozzle 3 so as to be collided with the circumferential surface 53 of the cooling roll 5, so that the molten alloy 6 is cooled and then solidified. In this process, gas is likely to enter between a puddle 7 of the molten alloy 6 and the circumferential surface 53, but such gas is expelled by means of the gas flow passages 54. The magnetic powder is obtained by milling thus formed melt spun ribbon 8. In this method, when the average pitch of these gas flow passages 54 is defined as Pµm and the average particle size of the magnetic powder is defined as Dµm, the relationship represented by the formula P < D is satisfied.
