An integrated circuit package socket includes an insulating housing having a plurality of side by side terminals profiled for receipt of a square package with leads extending therefrom. The socket also includes a camming member disposed above the housing which has a camming surface which contacts a portion of each of the terminals to move the terminals into and out of electrical engagement with the leads of the package. The camming member multiplies the force applied directly to the camming member to cause the desired rotation. Relaxation of the camming member causes a reverse rotation of the contacts into electrical engagement with the package leads.

An electrical connector for mating with a male contact of a mating connector is capable of exerting a selectively variable contact force. The electrical connector includes a conducing member having a lead and a contact beam electrically coupled to the lead. The contact beam is adapted to resiliently engage the male contact. The electrical connector further comprises a contact housing. At least a portion of the lead is disposed within the contact housing. At least a portion of the contact beam is disposed within the contact housing so that the contact beam is urged into and restrained by the contact housing when the contact beam resiliently engages the male contact. A contact force is thereby generated between the contact beam and the contact pin. The contact housing is capable of being selectively positioned in relation to the contact beam so that a point of restraint on the contact beam is selectively variable. The contact force between the contact beam and the male contact can thereby be varied on a selective basis.

A stiffener assembly for mechanically supporting the main body of an electrical connector to a circuit substrate, such as a daughterboard Printed Circuit Board (PCB). The PCB stiffener assembly is utilized to minimize bowing in the PC Board. The stiffener assembly includes a two-piece or split body having a top clamp and a bottom channel. A latch formed on the top clamp fits over and connectively engages a retention structure disposed on a rear surface of the connector housing. A bottom portion of the top clamp is disposed with in the bottom channel. The bottom channel rests on the PCB and the legs of the bottom channel extend upward form the surface of the PCB. One leg of the bottom channel rest against the rear panel and fits under the retention structure. Fasteners pass through the PCB and the bottom channel and engage the top clamp thereby retaining the connector on the PCB. The stiffener assembly simultaneously aligns one or more connector modules to one another creating a one piece "mo no- block" like effect while at the same time acting to stiffen the PCB thereby reducing any PCB bowing. The two-piece stiffener assembly allows for individual connector modules to be removed from the PCB by simply removing the top clamp portion of the PCB stiffener assembly. The stiffener provides a mechanism for mechanically supporting the main body of a connecto r module to a daughterboard PCB in a manner that is easy to manufacture and cost effectiv e.

The contact beam (24a, 24b) is adapted to resiliently engage the male contact. The electrical connector (11) further comprises a contact housing (15). At least a portion of the lead (26) is disposed within the contact housing (15). At least a portion of the contact beam (24a, 24b) is disposed within the contact housing (15) so that the contact beam (24a, 24b) is urged into and restrained by the contact housing (15) when the contact beam (24a, 24b) resiliently engages the male contact. A contact force is thereby generated between the contact beam (24a, 24b) and the contact pin (28). The contact housing (15) is capable of being selectively positioned in relation to the contact beam (24a, 24b) so that a point of restraint on the contact beam (24a, 24b) is selectively variable. The contact force between the contact beam (24a, 24b) and the male contact can thereby be varied on a selective basis.

Each wafer has a wafer body ( 131; 3113 ), a number of signal contacts ( 132; 330 ) and a grounding bus ( 133; 340 ). Each inner printed circuit board has a mounting portion ( 124; 324 ) extending between two adjacent wafers to electrically contact with the signal contacts and the grounding buses and a mating portion ( 123; 323 ). The electrical header connector has an insulative housing ( 210; 410 ) and a number of wafers ( 220; 440 ) accommodated in the insulative housing to receive therebetween and electrically contact with the mating portions of the inner printed circuit boards of the electrical receptacle connector.

A contact ( 1 ) for use with an electrical connector ( 2 ) for interconnecting a daughter board ( 4 ) and a mother board ( 3 ) in a mutually perpendicular relation, comprises a body portion ( 10 ) having an upper arm ( 12 ) and a lower arm ( 14 ). The upper arm extends in a first direction which is generally parallel to an axial direction of the body portion and the daughter board. The lower arm extends in a second direction which is generally perpendicular to the upper arm. The lower arm has a free end for engaging with the mother board. The upper arm has a free end with a curved edge ( 222 ) for engaging with the daughter board. The curved edge works in a plane that is mutually perpendicular to the first and second directions, facing the first direction. The contact has a body portion from which the upper and lower arms extend. The lower arm has a curved portion ( 16 ) which connects and offsets from the body portion. The curved portion moves in the third direction, facing the first direction.
